NASB | 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Christ who knew no sin to [judicially] be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious lovingkindness]. |
Bible Question: Jesus Christ is the "righteousness of God." (Romans 3:21) However, using this reference, (2 Cor 5:21) I was told that believers are the "righteousness of God." Might one get the notion of acquired divinity - (we will all become gods) unless we focus on the words, "IN HIM?" I'd appreciate some input here! |
Bible Answer: Mommapbs, A good question and your observation is right on track! Check 1 Cor. 1:30-31 as a reference. We have no righteousness on our own, nor do we merit it apart from faith. We are imputed the righteousness of God- by faith. So, you are correct that our focus should be on "In Him". It's certainly "not of ourselves, lest we could boast" :-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
