AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life]. |
Subject: why is baptism important |
Bible Note: Scripture.................................. Greetings Tim! You said in your previous post that Paul did not say that he did not baptize anyone, but he does say that he only baptized a few. In fact, he was glad that he had not baptized more. Here is the whole passage: 1 Cor. 1:13-17: "Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the name of Paul? 14 I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so no one can say that you were baptized into my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power." If baptism is essential to salvation, then why would Paul be thakful that he didn't baptize more? Why would he say that Christ did not send him to baptize? Concerning Mk. 16:16, are you comfortable basing a doctrine on a highly disputed text? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
