Bible Note: Hi Amanda; I tried the random approach to the Bible as you suggested, “and just open that book at random, and start reading wherever my eyes hit the page.” That got me in a lot of trouble and a lot of work! Genesis 6:14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. I couldn’t find any gopher wood so I built one out of steel and it took me over five years to finish it! Big project and a big headache but it sailed nice! The guy that I sold it to, after it wore me out for 12 years, is supposed to be sailing it around the world this year. No Thanks! I think a better approach to reading the Bible would be well-organized study habits; starting with the New Testament and asking the Lord for guidance as one reads through it several time before going to the Old Testament. It’s residual Bible doctrine that we retain in our soul that helps us in time of need. The method that you describe is like preparing for a hurricane after it hits and leaving it to chance that you might be right. 2 Tim. 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Have a great day, CDBJ |
