AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:1 Pursue [this] love [with eagerness, make it your goal], yet earnestly desire and cultivate the spiritual gifts [to be used by believers for the benefit of the church], but especially that you may prophesy [to foretell the future, to speak a new message from God to the people]. |
Bible Question: Is there a difference between praying in tongues and receiving the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues? |
Bible Answer: Hi Sarah, Yes indeed and this seems to be the pitfall of most discussions. Many can't recognize the difference and try to group both under gift and then state that 'all do not have the gift'. Tongues os a supernatural manifestaion of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer (who accepts by faith)in which the Holy Spirit prays for and through the believer. Paul said 'I pray with the Spirit and I pray with the understanding. I sing with the Spirit and I sing with the understanding also.'(available to all) But he also speaks of speaking in the congregation aloud, the GIFT, and having the GIFT of interpretation. This is the Holy Spirit speaking to the body for it's edification.(given at administered at the discretion fo the Holy Spirit) Does this help? God bless |
