NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:1 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:1 Pursue [this] love [with eagerness, make it your goal], yet earnestly desire and cultivate the spiritual gifts [to be used by believers for the benefit of the church], but especially that you may prophesy [to foretell the future, to speak a new message from God to the people]. |
Subject: Praying in Tongues? |
Bible Note: 1 Cor 12:28 "And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues" Taleb, This verse shows me tongues is a lesser gift (vs 31) and I believe 14:5 supports that. Where I think Paul is saying that tongues is useless w/o interpetation. The both exist today ... but, I think some churches are putting trends over the truth. Tongues is a known language to someone in the audience ... done by one person at a time, then interpeted (max of three people). Searcher |
