NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:1 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:1 Pursue [this] love [with eagerness, make it your goal], yet earnestly desire and cultivate the spiritual gifts [to be used by believers for the benefit of the church], but especially that you may prophesy [to foretell the future, to speak a new message from God to the people]. |
Bible Question: Is there a difference between praying in tongues and receiving the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues? |
Bible Answer: To pray in tongues is to pray in another language: Native tongue (see the origianal greek meaning for tongue) the apostle Paul only recommends this if one is able to translate or there is one at hand who can translate 1 Corinthians 14:6 for if nobody can understand whats the point of it how can it strengthen the church. Practicaly the only way to recieve the spiritual gift is to learn another language unless one day you awake being able to do it through the power of GOD when it is done properly as in someone may pray in french or african amongst a english speaking congregation it is an inspiring and edifying ecsperience.
