Subject: No speaking in tongues, no Holy Spirit? |
Bible Note: Debbie, The need for the interpreter is for the locals. It is like when someone would say something in Japanese here. There is a need for someone to interpret it into English, for everyone but the Japanese in the crowd. John 20:22 is after His resurrection and His promise of the Comforter (chapters 14-16). It is possible to be filled with the Spirit several times (Act 4:8, 4:31, 13:9). Notice the differences and similarities in Acts 4:31 and the day of Pentecost. I do not see anywhere where the interpreter does not know both languages. Why doesn't he speak? He may not have anything to say or he does not have the gift of teaching. Do you think you have all the Spiritual gifts, that are listed throughout the New Testament? I never said the gifts of the Holy Spirit stop being necessary. But we need to understand what the gifts are. I have seen churches not follow the directions on speaking in tongues - one speaks, another interpeters. Then, the cycle repeats. The church has everyone speak in tongues, at once. Steve |
