Bible Question: If a person does not speak in tongues does it mean they don't have the Holy Spirit in them? I know that speaking in tongues is a gift but is there another view? |
Bible Answer: I believe that speaking in tongues is a sign, but I also know a lot of people who are saved and who have the Holy Spirit residing in them who don't. My denomination believes scripture teaches that when you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, tongues can be a sign and usually is. But when you receive the bapitsm you don't just receive some of the gifts, you receive them all. You may only use one, or you may use many. The apostles were saved, but were not baptized in the Spirit until Pentecost. The man crucified with Jesus was saved, but did not have the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is desirable to have the gifts, but read 1 Cor. 13. If I never spoke in tongues and had as much love for people as Jesus did, it would be fine with me. That is the greatest gift and everything else is just frosting. Concentrate on that. Peace to you. Debbie |
