NASB | Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 2:4 And they were all filled [that is, diffused throughout their being] with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues (different languages), as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out [clearly and appropriately]. |
Bible Question: If a person does not speak in tongues does it mean they don't have the Holy Spirit in them? I know that speaking in tongues is a gift but is there another view? |
Bible Answer: In first Cor. chapter 12, the gift of tongues is listed as given to some. To others other gifts were given, by the same Spirit. Does that meen that those that recieved the gift of healing or other gifts, and not the gift of tongues, they were not saved? Or that they did not have the Holy Spirit inside of them? I don't think so. 1 Cor. 3:16 says that we have the Holy Spirit inside of us if we are born again. Chapter 12:1 calls them "spiritual gifts". Verse 4 says they come from the same Spirit. (big "S") 1 cor. 13:8-10 tells us that tongues "SHALL cease" when that which is perfect is come. When and what is that? I know, but you should study this one yourself. Tom J |
