Subject: No speaking in tongues, no Holy Spirit? |
Bible Note: Speaking in tongues is speaking in a language you do not know or understand (1 Cor. 14:14). If this is for people who understand the language spoken, why the need of an interpreter? The person who has the gift of interpretation does not know the language being spoken, for then it would be a known language and it would not be a spiritual gift to interpret. Yes, when you believe you receive the Holy Spirit but when Jesus breathed on the Apostles, they were not "baptized" in the Holy Spirit. If it were so, why did Jesus promise to send the "Comforter" to them at a later date? Why did they need to be filled again? To endue them with power. Others also spoke in tongues at their spiritual birth, Paul is a good example. He spoke in tongues, had the gift of prophesy, and the others. When Paul wrote to the Corinthians, he was writing to a church. It gifts were used in the church (or I should say misused)and I don't think all of the Corinthians were in those two places stated. Because everyone was using their "eye" gift, Paul wrote the letter and gave specific guidlines. Things should be done decently and in order, and he states the order. I have a question. When did the gifts of the Holy Spirit stop being necessary? If they served a purpose then, wouldn't they serve an even greater purpose now? However, we still have people that say "They are drunk on new wine." We may never agree on this one. But that does not stop us from being a part of the family of God. Debbie PS I speak in an unknown tongue, buthe only lanuage I know is very little Spanish from Sesame street and a couple of phrases in Hungarian that I don't use since I became born again! |
