Bible Question: I would like someone to quote just once during the first 400 years of Christianity anytime, anywhere, anyone referring to John 3:5 as referring to something other than water baptism, if that's the incorrect interpretation, surely one person would have complained about it! |
Bible Answer: Greetings Arrow1! The early church fathers were not infalliable. They were just men like us. So, even if all agreed on a particular intepretation of a verse, that does not necessarily make it true. The real question is what does Scripture say? I would also note that many of the early church fathers were addressing the arguments advanced by those who did not see baptism as necessary for salvation, so there was not uniformity of opinion in this matter - even in the early church.
