Bible Question: i met a lady who said that the sabbath is on a saturday and that the catholic church had changed the law so tell is this if not could you give me some verse yo back it up |
Bible Answer: Here is a BIble study i put together on the Sabbath totally from the Bible. One of God’s most beautiful gifts to all of mankind The creation story On each day of the week Jesus created everything to make this new world perfect for His beings that He would create. Beings that would be unique in the universe for these beings would be made in the image of God. (Genesis 1: 26- 27) After Jesus spoke everything into existence, on the sixth day, He came, knelt upon His new earth. As Jesus knelt He started to form, out of the dust, a hand, then an arm, a leg finally He was done. As He looked at the body He had one thing left to do, and Jesus bent down He blew the breath of life into the man and he awoke. (Genesis 2:7) Now after the man awoke he noticed that all the animals had a partner, yet he was all alone. The man went to God with this, the man was put into a deep sleep and from a rib in his side woman was made. (Genesis 2: 19- 21) All was perfect on earth, so what were man and woman to do on their first day? What was God to do after He completed His perfecting art of creating it? God decided to make a memorial of all that He had created; He wanted their first day to be a holy day to remember the God that had made them, and to dwell on all that He had done for them. This day would be for them the best day of all, a day to come together with their creator and worship Him. How would you have liked to be there that day, when the man and woman spent time face to face with their creator and sought a deeper relationship with Him who was the God of all things? There is a way that we can each week take part in what Adam and Eve did, and we can do that by taking part in the gift that God gave to all humanity that creation week. On the seventh day of the week after all the work of creation was complete God, and His newly created beings, rested, and God hallowed the Sabbath day and blessed it. (Genesis 2:1- 3) We can see through the Bible how the Sabbath has been an immense blessing throughout time. We can see that the great patriarchs kept the Sabbath, Moses (Exodus 16:23- 29) , Solomon (2 Chronicles 2:4), Daniel, we can see that Jesus and the apostles kept the Sabbath, and also how after Jesus comes and re creates this earth to be what it was meant to be we will all come together and worship the true living God on Sabbath. But how do we know which day is the Sabbath? Yes we can see from creation that it is the seventh day of the week, and the Bible proves in many places that the seventh day is Saturday. We can look at the account of the crucifixion in Mark (15: 42) that Jesus died on the preparation day. Now everyone recognizes that Christ died on Friday, and we can also see from Mark (16: 1-2) that Christ rose on the first day of the week, and everyone also recognizes that Christ rose on Sunday, so logically what day is in between? It is Saturday. Isn’t it beautiful that even in Jesus’ death He kept the Sabbath? So what does it mean to keep the Sabbath? The Sabbath is mentioned 160 times in the King James Version, the First day, which refers to Sunday is only mentioned 8 times. First we will go to the first place the Sabbath is mentioned. Gen 2:1-3 – here we find that God blessed the seventh, Sabbath, day and set it aside Let’s now go to Exodus 20:8-11, this is where the 10 Commandments are found. We learned last time that the law is still binding today. Here guidelines concerning the keeping of the Sabbath. why we have the Sabbath, God knew that we would need one day to come apart from the world and dwell on the things above and the remember Him as our creator. Did Jesus keep the Sabbath? Luke 4:16 – it was Jesus’ custom to worship on the Sabbath Mark 2:27 – Jesus himself told us that it was made for man, as a memorial of our creator Mark 6:2 – Jesus taught on the Sabbath in the synagogue Did Jesus expect the Sabbath to be abolished or changed? Matthew 5:17- 18 – Jesus did not come to abolish the law, which the Sabbath is part of Matthew 24:20 – pray that flight not be on Sabbath Did the apostles keep the Sabbath? Acts 13:14, 42- 44, 15:21, 16:13, 17:2 – yes, here we see that Paul and the other apostles kept the Sabbath Revelation 1:10 – John in the spirit in the Lords Day, what day is the Lord’s Day? Mark 2:28 – Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath day, it is His day Will we be keeping the Sabbath forever? Isaiah 66: 22-23 – yes, in the new earth we will all come together to worship on the Sabbath When did the days of the creation week begin? When does Sabbath begin? Genesis 1:5, 8, 13 – they all begin and end at sundown John 14:15 – if you love ME, keep my commandments Why I keep the Sabbath Jesus created it, hallowed it, wrote it on stone when He commanded it, kept it while He was on earth, and will keep in on the new earth. If it was good enough for Jesus, it is good enough for me. Ezekiel 20: 12 – Sabbath is a sign |
