AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 16:24 ¶ Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]. |
Subject: Are you His disciple? |
Bible Note: Indeed... the call to being a disciple -- which is simply another term for being a Christian -- is a call to death, suffering, struggle, and affliction. I saw an old Sean Connery movie where he asked, "Is there not one thing in your life worth losing everything for?" This is what we have to gain! The Lord Himself! Being of infinite value, anything else that I "have" is infinitely worthless! |
