AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 16:24 ¶ Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]. |
Bible Question (short): pride and ego |
Question (full): Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For me right now in my life I take this to mean I need to die to my own ego and pride. Is there an easy way to do this? I have spent 30 years building it up and its painful to deal with, especially when I don't recognize what the true pride is that is so contrary to Christ. I'm pretty sure there is no shortcut, but if someone knows one... (wishful thinking). This is a recurring theme in my life and a lesson I want to learn and get over with (I know there will always be a little tug of war). Any thoughts are appreciated. Mike R. ps I love asking questions here, there is no one who knows me and gives biased answers based on personal relationship with me. |
