AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 16:24 ¶ Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]. |
Bible Question:
Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For me right now in my life I take this to mean I need to die to my own ego and pride. Is there an easy way to do this? I have spent 30 years building it up and its painful to deal with, especially when I don't recognize what the true pride is that is so contrary to Christ. I'm pretty sure there is no shortcut, but if someone knows one... (wishful thinking). This is a recurring theme in my life and a lesson I want to learn and get over with (I know there will always be a little tug of war). Any thoughts are appreciated. Mike R. ps I love asking questions here, there is no one who knows me and gives biased answers based on personal relationship with me. |
Bible Answer: Hi Mike, I started the same process that you are facing when I was 27 now I'm going on 70. I can give you a factual answer. 1. Exercise the function of 1John 1:9 on a moment by moment bases if needed. That keeps one teachable so that the Holy Spirit can do the teaching. 2. Read the New Testament through at least 7 times before even attempting the Old Testament and the following will take place; 2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. 3. This doesn’t come about by a hit or miss attitude. It must be study, study, study. 2 Tim. 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. You will learn more when you try to teach others what you have learned. Find a good Bible believing church and put your self in a position where you are held accountable. I hope you enjoy the forum, CDBJ |
