Subject: Receive the Holy Spirit or holy spirit? |
Bible Note: Hi Faithfultrav, Welcome to the forum. Acts 13:2 says, "And while they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." Here we see that the Person of the Holy Spirt speaks and calls. Acts 5:3, 4, shows us that the Holy Spirit can be lied to and is God. But when I looked at the filling of the *holy *spirit I did not see any pronoun in that context that would equate it with a Person. I differentiate between the Giver and the gift, between the Spirit and the spirit. I see the holy spirit as a gift, given without measure by the Holy Spirit, to be received and sought after by believers. Acts 11:15, "And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as He did upon us at the beginning. And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with [Or, in] the *holy *spirit." If God therefore gave to them the same GIFT as He gave to us also after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?" We can look at other Scriptures together if you would like. The important thing is that we hear the word of the gospel which cleanses us. Acts 15:8, "And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, GIVING them the *holy *spirit, just as He also did to us; and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith."
