Bible Note: Hi graceful, I agree with the addition in your second post (08-18-03, 12:15) of Matthew 9:8 and Matthew 8:8 where you use them to show the "One" who had spiritual authority. Matthew 9:8, Interlinear Greek, J.P.Green, Editor, "And seeing, the crowds marveled, and (they) glorified God, the (One) giving such authority to men." Here we see the crowds glorified God and Jesus as the One being able to forgive sins. Matthew 8:8,9, NASB, "But the centurian answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I, too, am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, 'Go!' and he goes, and to another, 'Come!' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this' and he does it." Here we see that the centurian saw himself as a man under authority, with soldiers under him. Jesus was similar, in the likeness of men, but He was the Son of Man who was given the authority to forgive sins in Matthew 9 and here was also given the authority to just speak the word and the centurian's servant was healed in Matthew 8:8-13. The Pharisees in Matthew 9 were attempting to make Him into a demon-posssessed "man" instead of God Himself, the only One who can forgive sins. From the heart, Ray |
