Bible Note: Great quote but let us not forget that serious, faithful and honest expositors do at times come to different conclusions of the meaning of a text. Also one of the main tasks of the Holy Spirit is to teach us and to guide us to the truth. All expositors must remain senstive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. For no amount of education, no amount of logical thinking, no amount of linguistic skills will lead us to the correct understanding of scripture. I have heard faithful and honest men of excellent education, possessing almost infalliable logic, and experts in original languages and being well studied in hermanutics and practiced expositors completely miss what another equally trained and talented person saw. The fact is many theological positions have been debated and discussed without compromise or conclusion since the reformation. |
