Bible Note: sid: Probably before you were born, unless you're a septuagenarian like me, I was reading the King James Bible, and I've been reading it for well over five decades. Moreover, I've read much about the King James Bible, the bulk of which has been most laudatory. It has been called out of date because of its great age: it uses Jacobean English which many modern readers find difficult to read. This is true, but it is not a fault of the translators that the English language has undergone profound changes in the last 400 years. It has been criticized for its use of what some modern scholars consider an inferior text. That is debatable but even if true, it is no fault of the King James Bible translators. They used the best ancient texts available at the time. But nowhere even among its fiercest critics have I ever known a responsible critic of the King James Bible say that the translators of this grand old version mounted any deliberate effort whatever to corrupt the word of God by adding to it, taking from it, or in any other manner to engage in deliberate mistranslation. Quite to the contrary, the translators of the KJV still enjoy the unmitigated admiration and respect for their fidelity to the ancient manuscripts. .... Frankly, sid, your attack against the KJV totally lacks scholarship, merit and credulity and is, in fact, pointless, fatuous, and inane. Even though I personally use a number of newer translations in my reading and study of Scripture, I still use, and trust, the KJV also. It strikes an odd chord in me that a new user of Study Bible Forum such as yourself, whose credentials are a mystery, would come to this place with startling revelations about the King James Version that thousands of learned scholars have missed in the last 400 years. So, let's just throw in the towel on this pointless witch hunt right now and move on to other things more potentially rewarding to us all. --Hank |
