Bible Note: sid: You write to Brad, "They (they being the King James Bible translators) translated many Hebrew words with over 25 definitions." (Bully for them!) "You and I would be unable to communicate like that. Every time you used a 25-definition word, I would have to stop you and ask, 'Which definition are you using'" ..... Would you now? Do you not know, have you not heard, that context determines definition. Permit me an illustration. Webster's Collegiate Dictionary lists 63 separate definitions of the word 'up.' If I should say to you, "Up," would you have any idea of what I was talking about? Of course you wouldn't. But if I should say, "What's up, sid?" would you need me to define the word 'up'? Let's try another. I woke up at 7:30 this morning. Do you understand what I am saying? Do you need me to define 'up' in this sentence? What about this one? What you think of this Forum is up to you. Any problems understanding 'up'? ..... Well, sid, I'm UP to my neck in e-mail so must wind this post UP and attend to my e-mail, even though I don't really feel UP to the task. --Hank |
