Bible Note: Sid, I don't see where this verse says "dead flies in the ointment stink". In writing this thread, you have in front of you the amplified version, which clearly brings out this distinction, yet you ignore that in favor of making your own point. You claim knowledge of Hebrew, surely you understand that Hebrew is all about context, and the same word can be found in any number of contexts, and is modified by those contexts, right? So when you come and say that a translation is wrong because you haven't experienced what the passage is talking about, aren't you basing you criticizm of that translation on your life experience (or lack thereof), rather than the what the passage is actually saying? Dead flies cause the ointment to stink. This is different than those dead flies stinking themselves. There is something to be said for looking at every instance a word is used to gain a greater understanding, but I really think you can miss some important distinctions if that is all you look at.
