Bible Question: is it always bad to lie? there are some extreme cases where lieing can save people's lives. If I lie for good cause (not only for myself but for others as well), would I still be considered as sinning? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Ayano! The best way to answer this question is to see what Scripture says. Lev. 19:11 - "Do not steal. ”‘Do not lie. ”‘Do not deceive one another" 1 Sam. 15:29 - "He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind.”" Jer. 9:5 - "Friend deceives friend, and no one speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; they weary themselves with sinning." Col. 3:9 - "Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices" Titus 1:2 - "a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time," 1 John 2:21 - " I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth." Rev. 14:5 - "No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless." Ps. 119:163 - " I hate and abhor falsehood but I love your law." Prov. 6:16 - "There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers." Let us summarize these verses: 1) God cannot lie! 2) We are commanded not to lie! 3) God hates lying! I would say that lying is always a sin! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran pS. 1 |
