Subject: Is it always a sin to lie? |
Bible Note: Hi Makarios, Nothing here says that Pharaoh's daughter lied to him. Maybe he was ok with it. Maybe he saw how much his little sweetheart loved this cute little boy, and didn't have the heart to deny her. Maybe she did lie to him. Again, we don't know, and to say she did is to assume things that we don't know. But suppose she did... There was a woman, brought to Jesus, caught in the very act of adultery. No second guessing here! What was her punishment? "Who condemns you?" "No one" "I do not condemn you. Go your way and sin no more." She was not punished, not that we are told. Does this mean that adultery is ok? Of course not! We are not told whether or not Pharaoh's daughter lied. We are not told whether or not Pharaoh's daughter was punished or not for the lies she may or may not have told. We are not told whether or not Pharoah's daughter repented or not after being punished if she was for the lies she may or may not have told. If we stick to what the text actually says, these are the conclusions we must reach. If we start assuming things that it does not actually say, the sky is the limit. Love in Christ, Mark |
