Subject: Can I trust this Pastor? |
Bible Note: Dear Jensen, "...not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near." Hebrews 10:25 NASB My fellow saint, in order to serve God, we have been given three gifts: 1) the Bible, 2) the Holy Spirit, and 3) the church. All of these are *absolutely necessary* for us to know and serve God! As my good brother Reformer Joe has said, the test for 2 and 3 is the Bible, but you cannot depend solely on *your* understanding of Scripture, saying it is of the Holy Spirit, and deny your responsibility to the church of Jesus Christ. We are *living stones* being fitted together to the glory of God (1 Peter 2:5 ff). I am sorry for your bad experience(s), and pray for your healing. (which, by the way, is completely available!) But you must be part of His body in order to serve Him, which IS His body. The Lord WILL lead you to a church. You must not be looking for excuses to not be comfortable. As with a natural family, there will inevitably be those who make you ashamed, those who intimidate you, and those who you do not like.(or 'mesh well together' :-)) But overall, the body of Christ is a nice family, and if you humbly apply yourself to service and love, God will make a place for you. If all else fails, pack your bags and come to Yokohama! We are not perfect, but we do fulfil all the requirements (by grace) of a church. Remember, you are not seeking a professional Pastor, but a Biblical shepherd. With this in mind and heart, continue your search. I am confident that you will find that which you seek!
