Bible Question: Can someone give me a summary / commentary on the books of 1 and 2 Corithians |
Bible Answer: Hello vimbainashe! Paul's purposes for writing 1 Corinthians were: (1) to instruct and restore the church in its areas of weakness, correcting erroneous practices such as divisions (1:10-4:21), immorality (chapter 5; 6:12-20), litigation in pagan courts (6:1-8) and abuse of the Lord's Supper (11:17-34); (2) to correct false teaching concerning the resurrection (chapter 15); and (3) to give instruction concerning the offering for poverty-stricken believers in Jerusalem (16:1-4). Paul's purposes for writing 2 Corinthians were: (1) to explain the reason for the change in itinerary (chapters 1-7); (2) to encourage the Corinthians to complete the collection in preparation for his arrival (chapters 8-9); (3) and to stress the certainty of his coming (chapters 10-13).
