Bible Question: I am trying to understand if a woman must have long hair accrodng to the words of the apostle Paul in the book of 1 corinthians chapter 11. Please help me to understand this passage ina biblical sense |
Bible Answer: Well this isn't as confusing as many people make it out to be. Not surprising, the same people who have a hard time with this are the same ones that have a hard time with submission, another biblically sound (and required) doctrine. In simple terms, this issue cannot be chalked up to cultural taboo. Just read it and you can easily see that Paul is describing the natural order, ordained by God. Long hair is given as a covering and men must not have their heads covered. Simple. Women must have their heads covered as a sign of respect and submission to their husbands. (1 Cor 11:7-12) As far as verse 16 is concerned, check out the NASB: "But if one is inclined to be contentious, we have no OTHER practice, nor have the churches of God." In other words, "If you're going to make a big stink of it, look around! We apolstles have never taught any differently, nor has Christ's Church." The simple fact is that it is in God's Word and it is not confusing. Should you get out a ruler? No. How long should a woman's hair be? Longer than her husband's. |
