Subject: josiebible, where does it say we can ask |
Bible Note: You asked ... Explain 'tongue in cheek' so I can be sure I understand what you are saying. ... Paul talked about the balance of gifts in chapter 12 and then in 14:23 says if they all were speaking in tongues, people would think they were in a madhouse. You said (again) ... "UNLESS the tongues are interpreted..then they are equal with prophesy because the message in tongues is clearly understood. But what I want you to see is that Paul said UNLESS meaning all tongues may not be interpreted" ... Paul says there should no no speaking in tongues, unless there is interpretation, the speaker should be silent (14:28) ... and tongues is still a less gift when it is interpreted. You said ... "According to the above verses (14:22-24) there is no indication that Paul is speaking af varying languages. He says when the unlearned or unbelievers come in what will they think? ... It is when all speak tongues, the unlearned, or unbelievers will think you are mad. I think you used the English dictionary to describe translate and interpret ... however, I rather look at the Greek There are three words that are translated, "translated" 1. Methermeneuo (3177) ... to translate into the language of one with whom I wish to communicate, to interpret 2. Hermeneuo (2059)... - to explain in words, expound - to interpret ... to translate what has been spoken or written in a foreign tongue into the vernacular 3. Diermeneuo (1329) - to unfold the meaning of what is said, explain, expound - to translate into one's native language ... it is from dia (1223) through and hermeneuo (2059) The word for interpretation (1 Cor 12:10, 14:26) is hermeneia, the noun feminine of hermeneuo (2059), a verb. The word interprets (1 Cor 12:30, 14:5, 13, 27) is diermeneuo (1329). Diermeneutes (1328).is the word for interpreter, a noun masculine, from diermeneuo (1329), a verb. ... Therefore the gift of interpretation is the same as translation, without knowing the language. Interpretation requires both to be languages, with parts of speech, etc. |
