Bible Note: Greetings Bill! I think you make an excellent point here. Israel is still the chosen people of God. The promises made to Israel as still valid and in effect. The confusion seems to come because of Paul's comments in Romans. However, in Romans, Paul is not saying that God has rejected Israel and replaced her with the Chruch. Rather, He is saying that there is a spiritual Israel which is entered through faith, not just birth. The effect of his statements is that Israel is broadened in meaning to include gentiles as well. But, God is not finished with the nation of Israel, as Rom. 11 makes very clear. So, like you, I too think it is a mistake to take every promise made to the nation of Israel and say that is also applies to the Church. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
