NASB | Genesis 2:9 Out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 2:9 And [in that garden] the LORD God caused to grow from the ground every tree that is desirable and pleasing to the sight and good (suitable, pleasant) for food; the tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the [experiential] knowledge (recognition) of [the difference between] good and evil. [Rev 2:7; 22:14, 19] |
Bible Question:
Before Adam and Eve ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil did they have "freewill"? My guess is they did, but I'm interested in hearing what others think about this verse. Thanks! Huron |
Bible Answer: "Freewill" is not the term the Bible uses when it talks about human choice. The word "freewill" is used 22 times in the entire Bible and ALWAYS in connection with the word "offering(s)". In the NIV the words elect, election, choose, chosen and chose appear 250 times. In all cases they mean, simply, "chosen," or "to choose". While not always referring to election for salvation, the majority of the occurences of the words choose or chosen is speaking of God's choosing, not man's. |
