God's day to you, CDBJ, Even if we add ... ... Psalm 109:25 I also have become a reproach to them; when they see me, they wag their head. ... Matthew 27:39-44 39 And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads 40 and saying, "You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross." 41 In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying, 42 "He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. 43 "HE TRUSTS IN GOD; LET GOD RESCUE Him now, IF HE DELIGHTS IN HIM; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.'" 44 The robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words. ... also Mark 15:29-32 I don't "taunt" ... I was looking for the word. Moreover, the passage quoted is not about any harsh words. It was a challenge to the poster, who may not answer either of us. Searcher |

God's day to you, G. Preston, This is an extract from my post 138120: I believe there are only two camps - righteous and unrighteous. So the babies were condemned, because they were unrighteous. When Abraham pleaded for Sodom, I believe their were babies, yet they were not considered righteous. God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah there were less than ten righteous (Gen 18:16-19:25) and only the righteous have eternal life, the unrighteous, eternal punishment (Mat 25:31-46). ... God's day to you, Johns89589, and welcome to the SBF, As pointed out - we all deserve to die, since we violated God's standards - but Thank God we are saved by His grace. Read Deuteronomy 7:1-2 in the context of the whole chapter, as well as Deu 20:16-18. God knew what would happen if they intermingled. His standards would be compromised. It started with Jericho ... "The city shall be under the ban, it and all that is in it belongs to the LORD; only Rahab the harlot and all who are with her in the house shall live, because she hid the messengers whom we sent" (Jos 6:17). Before Jericho ... "Anyone who rebels against your command and does not obey your words in all that you command him, shall be put to death; only be strong and courageous" (Jos 1:18). God's day to you, Inquisitor, You said "But it's still quite a quandry to me. These people, at least MOST of the ones I've seen here on the Forum ask sincere questions based on scripture and MOST of the time, all they get in response is name-calling." Emphasis mine. So I am curious how which posts do you read? Please read ALL the posts from the past three days ... or even today's posts. Even without reading them - there are very FEW ones with name calling. Continuting ... If I call someone a Campellite, I do so not as a term of derision, but because that is how they are labeled. There are several groups that have roots in the Campells, though they say they are followers of Jesus, not Campbell. Lutherans and other groups point to Matrin Luther as being an important person. But, again, if the foundation is not Christ, what are they? Searcher |

God's day to you, Doc, I think you a right ... it is a general categorical fashion that we should associate the beast as the (not an) antichrist. There is both many antichrists and singular the antichrist (1Jn 2:18). The beast decieves (Rev 19:20) as does the antichrist (2Jh 1:7) ... but there are many deceivers (2Jh 1:7). Searcher |

God's day to you, biga1977, and welcome to the SBF, If you mean as you study a passage in a book of the Bible, I would ask - Who was the human author and what do we know about them? - Who were the original recepients? - Is it the past (history), principle (law/commmandment), poetry, prophecy or a mix? - What is the context within the book and the Bible? - MOST IMPORTANT ... How does this apply to me? Hope this helps. Stay and share, Searcher |

97 | what is important about 40 | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 229532
God's day to you, Peggy, and I add my welcome to the SBF, One problem in assigning as significance to a number in the Bible, it must be consistent. I have read that 40 means probation, trial, chastisement or being tried. First, is whenever the number 40 appears, is it about what someone says? Biblicalman pointed out some places where this is not true. There are more. Note Israel wandered in the desert for 40 years, because the spies were out spying for 40 days (Num 14:33-34) … How does the later fit in? Then there is 1 Kings 6:17 and 7:38. In Acts 23:13-21 there were 40 men who plotted to kill Paul. Second, I'd like to point out there were periods of probation, trial, chastisement or being tried, that were not a measure of 40. In Judges, Israel was never under the rule of another country for a 40 period. Israel was in Babylon for 70. Not 40 years (Jer 25:11-22, 29:10; Dan 9:24). I doubt Jesus’ trails were 40 minutes long. 98 | what is important about 40 | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 229551
God's day to you, biblicalman, You said, "The Bible was written by a large number of different authors and they could well have had their own viewpoint." ... What is your source to say "their own"? The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." Likewise, 2 Peter 1:21 says "For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." When God inspired them to write 40, I believe it wasn't their own viewpoint, but God's. Searcher |
