125 | Suffering and God's providence | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 162263
This is a partial repost of 162181 .......... God's day to you, vernen I think about Job and Paul who experience this 1. It proves our relationship with God. Job was blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil, yet when bad thing happened, he did not sin nor did he blame God ... and he held fast his integrity he could accept good from God and adversity (Job 1:1-2:10). 2. It strenghtens us in our weakness, as it did Paul. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 reminds us that His grace is sufficent and His power is perfect. 3. It develops endurance. When we encounter various trials it ia the testing of our faith which produces endurance ... so may be mature and complete ... and He gives us the widom we ask for (Jam 1:2-4). 4. It lets us rely on God and His comfort. He promises to comfort us in all our troubles and delivers us. Our hope is set on Him. (2 Cor 1:8-11). 5. We gain approval through our faith as we focus on the future. Faith is assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Heb 11:1) ... because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect (vv 35-40). Scripture ... Acts 2:6ff, 10:44-48, 19:5-7; 1 Cor 12:4ff, 14:27 ... God's day to you, kane, There are many posts on this subject. Under Search enter tongues 116386 48618 ... the latter two are my posts, which I have used below. In Acts 2:6ff 120 spoke in known languages, that they never studied, but others understood. Only twice of the ten conversion experiences in Acts do the new belivers speak in tongues right away: 10:44-48 Cornelius and his house 19:05-07 12 disciples of John This supports that tongues is one of many gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor 12:4ff (vs 10)) ... not all will have any particular gift, including tongues Tongues spoken one at a time, then interpeted ... and at the most three speak (1 Cor 14:27). Do you have the gift? 1. If you speak in a language that another understands that you have never studied ... and 2. There is an interpeter to translate what you say into English. ... then you have the gift. Searcher |

Scripture ... "In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words" (Rom 8:26) ... God's day to you, jmt90, The people who say the Spirit talks in tonuges through a person ... or something similiar, I think have it backwards .. based on this verse (and context). First, we try to pray and the Spirit commuincates to the Father ... we are not doing the groaning. Second, there is "groanings too deep for words" ... which means it is not a language, which is required to speak in tongues (glossa). Searcher |

137 | Are these essentials for Salvation? | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 167058
We need to repent (that we are sinners), call on Him - confess with your mouth, believe with our heart and make Jesus your Lord. 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" 38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:37-39) ... Verse 21 says AND IT SHALL BE THAT EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED (also Rom 10:13) Acts 4:12 says it is by His name alone. 30 "Sirs, what must I do to get saved." 31 They said: “Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will get saved, you and your household." (Acts 16:30-31) For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek (Rom 1:16). 09 For if you publicly declare that ‘word in your own mouth,’ that Jesus is Lord, and exercise faith in your heart that God raised him up from the dead, you will be saved. 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. (Romans 10:9-10) In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation --having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise. (Eph 1:13) It is His grace (Acts 15:11, Eph 2:5 ... Ephesians 2:8 adds thru faith), justified by His blood (Rom 5:9) by His life (Rom 5:10). When I did this when I was 4 years young, I didn't even understand what a virgin was. |
