God's day to you, flyman172, In addition to this being for the Rich Young Ruler, not the 12 ... if you chose to give to the poor, you need to do it without fanfare (Mat 6:1-4). You could give all you have (Mar 12:38-44). Searcher |

flyman ... the thread is about Sell what you have-give alms Let us look at the first two verses you cited ... the first is not about the topic. Matt 10:38 - Jesus said, "And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me." The context is Jesus' instruction to the 12 before He sent them out (10:1-11:1) ... and a tighter context is making chosing Him or not (vv 34-39). Matt 19:21, - Jesus said that in order to inherit eternal life, be perfect, sell everything you have, give to the poor then follow him. ... you misquoted the last word - it is "Me" that is Jesus, not him, the poor man. The context is verses 16-30. Even if you looked at verse 22, you missed only part of your pretext. Look at verses 18-19 ... which of the last five of the Ten Commandments did Jesus leave out? The reason Jesus asked this one to sell what he had was ... is he coveted while he had much. The Pharisees had other issues which kept them out. That is why I say context ... and so do others. 46 | Are people going to hell? | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 215394
Scripture ... Mat 5:22, 5:29-30, 10:28, 18:9, 23:15, 23:33; Luk 12:5 ... God's day to you, tonyab, Hell is real and is seen in The Douay-Rheims Bible the most (109 Verses) and The Holman Christian Standard Bible on has 10 Verses on Hell. The above verse are those that say men are going to Hell. I didn't include Mark 9:43,45,47 since they are about the same as those in Matthew. Matthew 25:41 says "Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels" ... so we see eternal fire is another word for Hell, and is was prepared for the devil and his angels, not men. In verse 46, we in verse 46 read "These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." We also read, "These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power" (2Th 1:9). These are some of the verses. Read the context of these verses. Searcher |

Scripture ... 1Co 14:2,4,13,14,19,27 ... God's day to you, Ron886, The word "unknown" is in italics in the versions that add it, including the King James Version. Italics are added to make the Bible more readable. 51 | why do we sing the songs we sing? | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 215895
God's day to you, pwadumdi, In Matthew 15:8 (Mark 7:6), Jesus quotes Isaiah 29:13 "Because this people draw near with their words And honor Me with their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from Me, And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote" ... read the context of the passages. I believe some (most) do it with their singing. I have seen people's faces not refelct the sonsgs they sing. I wonder if it is by rote or from the heart. Searcher |

54 | explain baptism into moses | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 216422
God's day to you, 561joshua01, Romans 6:3 helps us understand being "baptized into" is identifircation ... "Baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death". Galatians 3:27 does too ... "Baptized into Christ have put on Christ." We were baptized into one body (1Co 12:13). Do we put on Christ and are we one body when we are saved or are baptized by water? It should be. There is a twist in Acts 19:3-5. They were baptized into John's baptism , then in the name of Jesus Christ. I believe this was by water. All were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea ... no one got wet (Exo 14). Searcher |

57 | can a child be baptised | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 216712
God's day to you, Justme, I was saved at five (in Japan), too, but my water baptism was delayed until I was nine, when we were back in the USA – CHRISTMAS, 1960. If we study the book of Acts, six of the seven conversion experiences the believers were baptized the same day believed. The exception was Paul. I included 2:47, 4:4 and 8:14-17 because the Bible does say how soon after salvation these were baptized. -2:41 ... 3,000 saved and baptized the same day -2:47 ... many daily -4:4 ... 5,000 saved -8:14-17 ... Samaritans -8:34-39 ... Ethiopian saved and baptized the same day -9:5-19 ... Paul saved but baptized three days later - 10:44-48 ... Cornelius (and his house) saved and baptized the same day -16:14-15 ... Lydia saved and (and her house) baptized the same day -16:31-34 ... Jailer saved and (and his house) baptized the same day -19:5-7 ... About 12 disciples of John saved and baptized the same day So why do we wait? Do we say believers who are not baptized are excluded from the Lord’s Supper? Notice that it says only Lydia and the jailer were saved … but their house was baptized. I believe that may have included children. The Bible doesn't say either way. Let me start by saying I grew up in a Pietistic Baptist (Baptist General Conference (BGC)) home, there are slight differences from most other Baptists, which are the Reformed branch. The BGC as well as Evangelical Covenant Church (a church I now attend), another Pietistic group, is from the Lutheran branch. Until last month I was firmly against infant baptism. The following My get me kicked out of my Southern Baptist church. It is a minor issue. After careful study of Scripture, I think it is okay, just as long as it is not a view toward salvation. It is like child dedication in other churches. In both cases the parents and congregation (should) make a covenant about the upbringing of the child. I already believed we don’t have to be immersed to be baptized. Another minor issue. So I am gone :-D. At the Evangelical Covenant Church I attend we all made a covenant about the upbringing of a young lady who is a believer and went through confirmation. Seacher |

God's day to you, again, Justme, He has granted us another day, all days are His. He lets us live each day, rejoice and be gald in it. I am one to let the minor differences not bother me. I also have changed my views on several minor issues. We need to be willing to do so, even if it is to flip flop, like on women preachers. Searcher |

59 | Why do we delay baptism, not His Supper? | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 216765
God's day to you, Lionheart As I pointed out in post 216712 ... If we study the book of Acts, six of the seven conversion experiences the believers were baptized the same day believed, why we we wait? The exception was Paul. Most don't delay allow any believer from taking the Lord's Supper. We have is kacbwards. Seracher |

60 | Why do we delay baptism, not His Supper? | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 216771
God's day to you, Justme, Communion should be open to all believers, after they examine themselves (1Co 11:23ff). Nowhere in Scripture is the qualification of being baptized first. Questions for you as you study ... -Are believers part of the body of believers the moment they are saved? -Are believers part of the body of Christ the moment they are saved? -Are believers by the Spirit the moment they are saved? ... if we cannot answer yes toeach one, are new believers second class until they do something or reach a certain understanding? No one has ever given me a solid Biblical answer to wait for external baptism. No one has an answer about the book of Acts, where six of the seven conversion experiences the believers were baptized the same day believed, ... and why we we wait. The exception was Paul.
