Seeking the Truth: Welcome to the Forum! Your excitement is contagious, and I am pleased you asked such a excellent qquestion. You are not alone in your desire to know all you can and be assured it is accurate. The very best solution is to go to a Christian College and spend several semesters in Greek. The Greek New Testammmment is the most accurate there is. Now you have a choice of selecting an English translation, which is not qquite as perfect but the message is brought clearly, and I have yety to master all the ways Jesus taught us to be. There is a point that we can go over board and attempt to be so percice that we miss the meaning. Be noy so concerned that every dot and coma is exact but that we obey that which is clearly understood by all; that would be a major accomplishment for a lifetime. I encourage you to ask your pastor which Bible he uses and why. Go to the search engine you use and type in BIBLE PUBLISHERS. They look at each and see what interests you. Then go to a Christian Book store and look at them your self. My experience is when getting a Bible to get one that is leather bound, Not bonded leather it falls appart. Most genuine leather Bibles are good for a lifetime. The cost is about10 to 20 percent more but is well worth it, and will last so much longer. I personally favor the updated NASB and the NIV. Both are available in the Study Bible which is excellent for deep study, and the Life Application notes. I use them both and find them very helpful and easy to understand. The key to what ever Bible you choose is to USE it! Just sitting on the night stand by your bed does not assure that you will learn a thing. Therefor I would suggest a daily Bible devoational guide that not gives you a lession but a way to read the Bible in one year. I have used the Daily Bread from 1956 to now. There are many such materials, but find one and stay with a daily time of reading and prayer. That my friend will be a true test of your comitment to Christ as nothing else will. Blessings and hope this gets you on the road of maturing in Christ. justme |

CurtMan: The watchtower is with no doubt a cult! I read your profile and you say you like studing about cults, or I think that's your meaning. Study the Scrpiture and after you have SOLID BASE THEN STUDY CULTS. Bank teach how to spot a counterfit by studing the real thing. I think this is good advise for Christians as well, Any thoughts? 463 | Rapture different from Second Coming? | 1 Thess 4:17 | justme | 89911
RoaringLamb: Welcome to the Forum! Take some time and read Matthew 24, the whole chapter. I think you will find some differences from what you are thinking. Now if these are the Words of Jesus, who is the one returning, and others teach some thing different, who do you think is the better authority? Blessings. Any thoughts? justme |

FytRobert: May I suggest that the 66 Books now in the Bible are complete. Any other book not in the Scripture in the Form that the NASB, NIV or KJV., have are quite problematic. These extra books can be found in any Catholic Bible. These extra books are more historical in nature, and did fit the requirements to be considered as Holy Scripture, by the Councel back very early in Church history. This is a simple answer to a very complex question that's takes some seminaries a full course to explain. Does this help or do you want a more indepth answer? Blessings. justme |

465 | Question about meaning of turning cheek | Matt 5:39 | justme | 89652
Chusarcik: Your question is timely, because this very question was answered on Bott radio yesterday, See how the Lord works, I am always amazed. The answer is that only a slave was allowed to be slaped. But even turning the other cheek was not acceptable. You see at that only the right hand was used in greeting and for any other public purpose. The left hand was used only for personal hygene, and it was very serrious insult and a reason for a serrious physical fight, to be slapped in such a way. So to turn the other cheek ment you were accepting the left hand. Very humble and showing genuine forgiveness. Jesus was saying that showing the other cheek was a sign of forgivness and humility. This was a real culture issue, as Jews were under strick laws regaurding sanitary ways. This is common to many countries today that still have primative ways of hygene. Many South American and Central American peoples have this same tradition today. I hope this helps. Any thoughts? Blessings. justme |

4given: Good question. I use several ways, and this is I believe important, that not one way of opening the door to use scripture, I am not responsible for the results of if they pray to make Jesus Lord or reject Christ. That sets me free of guilt, I am perhaps a seed sower, maybe just a person th water the seed, or ever to pick the harvest. No one person can claim they did it all. I often start with "do you know Jesus?" That works for well. I use the Romans Road to show the plan of salvation, I trust God uses what I share. Simple but it works. Hope this helps. 467 | With knowledge comes pain and responsibt | Rom 14:12 | justme | 89430
GeorJoy :-) Hi again, this is justme. I would add that anyone with Biblical knowledge is not always a spiritual person either. Just because someone has NOT attended seminary does not mean they are Biblically ignorant. Nore is it correct to make statements that a seminary education is something to be considered as harmful or not worth while. With all higher education the student must look at what school they are intterested in, and if it is Biblically sound. This stands for welding school to any course of study. May I suggest that many dedicated solid doctrinaly sound Christians have paved the way so we can grow in the Lord and His Word. Look at the Bible you read from, were it not for seminary educated scholars you proberly would not have the Bible of today. I suggest that intelligence is NOT free. Rather intelligence cost someone in either hands on experience or in a learning as a student. Yes, you can earn a degree, but learning is NEVER free. Wisdom is better than Gold or any costly thing. I would ask you to question if ignorance is better than education? Is it easier to cut a tree down with a sharp axe or a dull axe? Seminary is the honing of becoming a skilled minister so they can minister to those who have intelligence and are not persauded by telling them the Bible says so. With CPE in the clinical setting many ministers have learned how to be there for the grieving, the terminal ill and their families. The world is full of ignorant, (perhaps lazy and stupid) Christians attacking and chewing one another up. May I suggest that unless the teacher has more learning and genuine spiritual life, then that of the learner, little taught or learned. That is one important reason seminary education is a good investment by those who are called to go. I agree that not all seminaries are worth going to. However the ones that worth while, are a treasure, worthy of investing your money and your time into. That's one way to have sheperds that know how to feed the flock pure bread and to share how to fish. Without brains (the ability to read) books are usless, no matter what the cost. I try not to lump all people, places, or seminaries into one box. Any thouhhts? Blessings. justme |

468 | You took a wrong turn somewhere.. | Rom 14:12 | justme | 89428
GeorJoy: Greetings and thank you for the response. As I read the notes the thread has had 11 notes. You sparked a nice dialogue and that's good in my book. George I believe that I understand your question and it's presumptions. What i was responding to was the insuation that a large number of Christions are stupid and lazy in the way they handle and understand the Bible. To that I am not so quick to label Christians in to the catagory of lazy or stupid. My concern is when someone comes to Christ, unless the person introducing Christ, takes the required effort to start them on a soild foundation, we do a diservice and set the newybeliever up for becoming a lazt stupid Christian. To me it is abundantly clear we who think are so much mature have a high notch on the belt record. But when it comes to discipling we do a miserable job! Then because of Our failure to assure growth by taking the required time to disciple these new believers, we are as much or more responsible for the laziness and stupidness you have discribed. I in no way am saying this with unkindness or anything negative toward you. I said this with a heavy heart and lived enough years to see the other side of the stupid lazy people, and how they got to be such. I hope this helps clear up what I was responding to you about. In other words I said all this to say, don't be so quick to make a call that someone is stupid or lazy. Your tone of voice in your quuestion comes accross as being ridged and stern and seeing only black or white. Some times we, ourselves play a significant part in why Christians do not mature as you have. Any thoughts? Blessings. justme |

469 | Are we Stupid or Lazy? Our Soul at stak | Rom 14:12 | justme | 89401
GeorJoy: I have read your question and the notes you have responded to, and the notes of others to you. I find your thought patterns and the way in which you express these thoughts in writing interesting. I read your profile and you are a person determined to mature and stand firm in your faith. That is noteworthy and is to be applauded. I asked myself several questions as I read this thread joined by a number of responders. We all have different ways to relateing to people, so no one way is the only correct way. I wonder if you could explain to me who is the "they" that you refer to several times? Are you refering to a paticluar church you have experience with, or just Christians in general? May I feflect on some things I observed in this thread? (I hope you said yes.) Many of us are anxious for others who claim the name of Christ, to take up their cross, and show those who are watching where their faith really is. I have at times been judgemential of those who were maturing in their at a, what seemed to me. a very slow pace. Infact some believers seem ti be moving backward in the maturing of their faith. This has caused me frustation, and I have felt sad for these believers. For me it has been easy to set up in my mind a "us", "them" in the way those who slowly mature in Christ. In reality this is building a straw man, that I precieve as carnal Christians something less spiritual, lazy and even stupid. These lazy stupid Christians just dont measure up to my standard of how fast a Christian should grow. I wonder why can't "they" get with the program as I have? There are all kinds of reason for stunted spiritual growth. However I think the problem for carnal or slow maturing Christians is much deeper than it appears on the surface. I believe that a large percentage of the fault lays at our very feet. How many of us rush to witness and get someone to make Jesus Lord, give thenm apamplet or Scripture, invite them to church and do not take the required time to nurture these babies in Christ? Training and maturing is essiential if these new believers are to grow in the very slightest. We can not judge these non maturing believers when we have not done the basics of follow up. I ask why are so suprised that Word of Faith movement is growing because these believers are ignorant and open to this flawed and dangerious teaching sucks up so many Christians? Sometime ago in the Daily Bread I read the following, "The renewal of the inner person, becoming Christlike, is not accomplished in a moment but a lifetime." author unknown. I hope my sharing this with you and others might cause each of us to see that at one time we too were considered by others to perhaps think we were lazy and stupid. I would be interested in your thoughts. Blessings. justme |

470 | What is the answer? 190pgs of unrelated? | Bible general Archive 1 | justme | 89240
D.Prestil: Welcome to the Forum! I believe your question was repeated twice, and I responded to it as such. Was I not correct? I am unsure what the "190pgs of unrelated" means. To answer your question. Adam was not begiled, but of free will chose to disobey God. Eve was intised, but none the less made a choice. Why satan chose to confront Eve first has many speculations, but perhaps it was planed by God's design. I suppose one could make many assumptions, and never know for sure, What are your thoughts? Why do you think satan confronted Eve first? justme |

4givn: Welcome to the Forum! I am glad you feel so positive about the Forum. There is a lot that goes on that very few have much of a clue about what it takes to have such a Fourm. I believe just the computed needed to have such a catalogue of keeping the all the information strieght would be a huge job. Say nothing about the progran to run a forum, must be quite costly. Somewhere you have to factor in many phone lines upkeep and reppaie and the people to host the site while its on. Maybe it would take so much time you might burry yourself and have little time for anything else. There are other forum's already, and I would think you would need to research to other Forum's to see what the need realy is. So if after all the research, you still feel inclined then maybe this would be worth looking into. Blesings to you. justme |

473 | Is God hand so short that he cannot lead | Col 2:21 | justme | 88888
Tim: You have some valid thoughts and conclusions. May I conclude that you are going to a Dispensational Premillennialist Fundimentalist church? There a wide scope of churches that fall into the catagory listed above. As every church has the right to set up their own set of standards, and expect members to follow their standards. Now how far a church can go to make these standards are kept is a horse of another color. Some churches practice shunning, and open punnishment of wayward members. You have shot no religious cow as far as I am concerned. Yes the truth is the truth, and by truth we are set free. You have experienced what I call a church that is quite primative. Many of those who reject modern "english" ways are of this mind set and way of life. Perhaps the better choice is to remove yourself from such a restricted church. I would NOT give them a piece of your mind before I left, but just leave abd find a church that you find closer to scripture. I personally would be very unhappy with this kind of church, however there are some fokes that feel this is the best way for them. The problem is when controlling churches want to take control and responsibility for your total life. I believe that is wrong. Tim, you have some bitterness and maybe rightfully so, only you know for sure. I encourage you to ask the Lord for direction, and then follow the Lords leading. Bear in mind someone who is as unhappy as your are don't like the members being as upset as you seem to be. I suggest you move in a peacefull mannor ASAP. Any thoughts or ideas? Blessings Tim. justme |

474 | How should we as christians greet ? | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 88748
dch: Glad to have you back to the forum! How did you resolve the situation of changing churches? In answering your question, I would say it all depends. What is the norman custome of your church. Some formal churches it may be a polite "how are you" with a nod. Other churches are real huggers, and enjoy the vocal expressions of "good to see ya" so all the church can hear. There is really no set way to greet one another. I like a hardy hand shake with a soft kind pat on the back. The choice is up to you. I've heard in Arkansas they really know how to make people feel welcome. However the state above Arkansas is the real winner of making fokes feel greeted! Blessings, and welcome again. justme |

475 | I wan to YEILD | 1 John 5:13 | justme | 88745
Lightman: Welcome to the Forum! You question reminds me of a man who was 37 and asked the same questions you do. This man told of asking the the lord into his heart over and over. He told of how he was scared to death to die. He too claimed have read the Bible for many years, and his Bible looked as if he had all but worn it out! He told of how he had repeatedly gone to several pastors in his life time seeking reassurance of his salvation. Some pastors told him he needed to pray more. So he says, he prayed more and more, with no results! Other pastors told him to tithe, and to read the Bible even more. He said he did all that and more. He was a trustee, Sunday School teacher, and active in the church. This man looked as saved as anyone, and no one doubted he was a true believer. The pain and agony of the constant fear of death and doubts got so bad it got unbareable. One Saturday at a men's breackfast at the church the special speaker told how he found Christ. Every detail the speaker related of how it was before he was truely born again, matched this mans life. This man claimes that what he was missing was repentance. He said he had never repented of anything. We know that confession without repentance is incomplete. Right? This man did repent and went to extremes. He refiled his past 5 years of income tax becaue he said he had never filed an honest one. He sought out those he had wronged and asked for restitution and forgiveness. The story goes on, he had to ask the deacons permission to be baptized. He was so active in church the deacons would not believe he just got saved. One deacon is said to have told the man, if you were't saved then I am not either! The man was baptized, and his family was changed. He went to Bible colledge, and completed four years in 24 months. He got a M Div at Seminary and pastored four churches. Both he and his wife got the same degrees, and ministered together until he became retired medically, several years later. This man's story has been the kindling to start some people thinking if they too were like he was. I have often wondered how many people are just like this man was. Do you recall a point where you not only confessed Jesus Christ, but repented? Repentance and confession are the two sides of the same coin. Examine carefully your self and see if this man's lack of repentance is in some way connected to how you feel. I pray this offers some new insight to you. Blessings and peace to you. Justme PS: I was that man! |

476 | LBLA Study Bible vs NASB Bible | Bible general Archive 1 | justme | 88730
y2k Knight: adding to what Steve told you, The Life Application study notes are now in the NASB updated version. The Study Bible and The Life Application bibles ar both of significanly valuable in having. The Study bible is mainly for deeper understanding the books by outline and the chapters and verses with really good background and historical information, I use it a lot. The Life Application is just what it implys. This study Bible helps you with examples and very good helps, suggests ways to use this verse your life today. I have this Life Application Boble in the NIV, and find I use it equally as much as the Study bible. Hope this helps and Blessings to you. Any questions? justme |

477 | who is not in the book of life? | Revelation | justme | 88726
uniqueone49: Those in the Book of Life are those who are born again believers. Those who's name is not in the Book of Life are not believers. In your profile you wanted more information about the Book of Life. Zondervan published a Bible reading progran with 24 volumes and called it The Book Of life. This is a very "unique" way for systematic Bible study. I own a set and it has been a good tool to help in seeing the Bible in a new fresh light. Some church libarys have them, perhaps some public as well. justme |

answers: Kyle, perhaps you have become very sensitive to the sins of your past. You said that you both made Christ Lord, and got married. You have both clearl repented of the sinful lifestyles you were living. At the point where you confessed your sin and repented and recieved Christ as Lord, you are a new creature in the Lord. There is nothing more satan would like than for you and your wife to doubt that you are clean and a new person in Chirst Jesus. You have been washed in the Blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ! If you want and feel this needs to be once and for all settled, get together alone and both of you pray about your feelings of guilt, and ask Jesus to heal your past completly. I can assur you both that this will settle this once and for all. I say this very tenderly, there will always be some person who will want to judge you and condem you, DO NOT LET ANY ONE TARE UP WHAT GOD HAS HEALED AND HAS MADE NEW IN CHRIST! Go now, in Jesus, with the newness of eternal life, and be loyal to the Lord and each other. I ask you now are you clean before the Lord? Yes! Now put this out of your ninds and become a helping healer for others who are what you once were. Today the world has millions of people who need to hear that Jesus died for their sins and was the final payment for their sins, they cab be born again in Christ. Did not Christ do for you what He had done for others? The wonderful Grace of Jesus reaches out to whom ever will come. Many are the hearts burdened down by sin. They need Jesus. I pray your wife and you will be blessed and grow in your faith in Jesus Christ. You have a wonderful testimony, continue on and bear much fruit. justme |
