41 | Submit . . . unless it hurts? | Eph 5:33 | glory777 | 66618
I differ with you in your opinion that the bible shows hatred for women. Rather, God shows no favoritism. Those who believe are "sons of God", men or women. Jesus used a woman to further the kingdom (the Samaritan woman at the well); when the adulteress was brought before Him, when the others would stone her (where was the man who was caught?)His answer freed her and condemned the others. It is man who added the laws to control women and the culture at that time, and even in this time in some countries who are considered second best. Look in the new testament at all the women that are commended. Each role that God ordained is important, it is the human nature that wants to put some in a lesser position than another. When a man becomes God and can see into the future as to what the result of his abuse will be, then he has a right to abuse his wife "for her own good". Jesus never hurt anyone. The man is to submit to God, he is never told to abuse his wife but to love her. Debbie |

42 | Why not James, Joses, Simon or Judas | John 19:26 | glory777 | 66155
Hi Prayon- I don't know for sure, but I think Jesus intended that because John was at the cross with Mary. I don't see that any of Jesus' siblings were there. If John loved Him enough to be there and, I am sure, comfort Mary who was grieving with him, who else could offer, not only monetary support, but emotional support and was likeminded. We know that earlier on, his brothers thought Jesus was crazy. john was always the disciple whom Jesus loved. Just a guess. Debbie |

43 | scripture that deals with husbands and w | 1 Cor 7:5 | glory777 | 66154
quelajerry- The scripture is saying that if there is a mutual agreement and for a set time, sexual relationships between husband and wives can be denied. Disagreements as a basis? Nah. Scripture says a lot about disagreements and anger. Eph. 4:26 is a prime example. Debbie |

44 | Conversion or tolerance? | Matt 10:16 | glory777 | 65854
I think it is for anyone who has a heart for doing what Jesus commanded, especially for those going into lands where the persecution is severe. The disciples at that time (and many today) are going where they would be putting their lives on the line. However, Jesus said in Matt. 28:19-20 we are to make disciples. Religious freedom is a term used today to be politically correct and insulate ourselves from what Jesus wants us to do. No, we should not persecute those who believe different than we do, but we do have an obligation to show them the love of Christ and Christ working in us. It is ultimately not up to you to convert them, it is the work of the Holy Spirit but it is up to you to tell them of the Hope that is in you and leave the choice to them. How will they know if they don't hear the Truth? I have found an "in your face" approach doesn't often work. I have heard the saying "preach the gospel, if neccessary - use words". Your example, your attitude, what you surround yourself with (music, entertainment, etc.), the attitude you have will often cause questions. A perfect opportunity for sharing what Jesus has done for you. But do nothing without prayer and ask for the HOly Spirit's guidance. And above all PRAY for those friends of yours. Remember, you may not be the one to see the fruit of what you are doing. You may just be planting the seed that someone else will water before faith springs to life. But don't give up. May God increase your zeal for working for Him. May He bless you and give you opportunities to send forth His word. May He give you boldness and an even greater love for Him, in Jesus' precious name. 45 | Woman's sin worse than man's? | Eph 5:33 | glory777 | 65705
And thank God He did lay down the rule - although the feminist movement would not agree. Some interpret "Your desire shall be for your husband.." to mean wanting to dominate over him, and I think that is probably true. You can't have two heads in a corporation making different decisions and have a company survive- neither can a family have 2 heads making opposite decisions and still survive, as we have seen all too often in our culture. Yet, the "natural" tendency is to take dominion from the husband for so many wives, myself included. Yet what a release when you can turn that over. I think a lot of women don't understand because they have never tried it, it goes against what we have been trained and seems to make our role in the marriage seem less (srchng - yes, I am a woman!)when in fact, it gives us more time and energy to allow us to keep more of our focus on the role God intended for us to have. 46 | Woman's sin worse than man's? | Eph 5:33 | glory777 | 65624
Sorry, Rabbi Mark- But not onlydoes it sound to me as though Adam passed the buck to Eve, but that he also passed the buck to God - The woman YOU gave me". You have given no proof that Adam wasn't there when Eve took of the fruit and I don't think you can find any, so your assumption that he wasn't there is just as valid as mine if I say he was. No condemnation here, just saying that this may be one area no one has proof of either way. I never thought of the matter that Adam wanted to share whatever Eve would have to face. Good food for thought. But is that rational and you don't have proof for that, either. No one forced it down his throat, it was his choice to choose his mate over God. Question - wasn't he, not only turning dominion of the earth over to Satan by his action, but also, in a sense, turning dominion over to his wife? Should start a war here with this one! Debbie |

47 | Can someone help w/my realtionship w/god | Rom 10:9 | glory777 | 65330
lost-n-MS- I pray that this site will be a blessing to you. First, you need to know all that being a Christian means. It means giving up to the Lord rulership of your life. It is not easy, but He has made so many promises to us that those who are not Christian can never comprehend the reality of it all. Peace, jooy, love, hope, etc. , and yes, trials and persecution, but through the rough times, you know that He is there and His love is eternal. He gave His very life in the most horrible way that can be imagined for YOU! Because He loves you and could not imagine going through eternity without you. But He will not force you to spend eternity with HIm. Nor will He force you trust in Him or make Him Lord in your life. If you choose to love Him, if you choose to give your life to Him, all it take is to repent of your sins (a turn around of 180 degrees - knowig the things you are doing or the life you are living is incomplete without HIm), acknowledging the Jesus Christ is God and you want Him to come into your heart and be Lord of your life forever. When you truly desire this, when you invite Him in, He will come in. He will revive the spirit you were born with and make it new in Him. You are His child. Then you need to find a bible-believing and teaching church. There are many denominations that teach what scripture has to say. And above all, read your bible. Get a version that is easy to understand and I would suggest starting with the book of the gospel of John. God bless you in your walk with the Lord. You will never walk alone. If you have any more questions - E-mail me. Debbie |

48 | Where does this story come from? | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 65065
This is an excellent book (written by Phillip Keller) but I do not recall anything about breaking a lamb's leg. However, I can see how that could be used in relating to what the Lord could do to us. If a shepherd has a lamb that is continually straying and other's are following it, in order to save it's life, a broken leg would limit it's mobility, even after it healed. Doesn't the Lord do that to us sometimes? If we are involved in hurtful practices or have other sins in our lives that He wants to remove from us in order to use us - this could be pride, lust, etc.- He could allow a very painful situation to arise that would remove us from this sin so that we could live and ultimatly reap the joys of being in closer fellowship with Him. 49 | Evil Spirit from the Lord? | 1 Sam 19:9 | glory777 | 65064
justducky- The Lord had removed His protection from Saul by this point. David had been chosen to replace him. With the absence of God's protection, we are open to all sorts of things. In this case, a demonic spirit was able to influence Saul. Kind of like if I left my grandson by a mud puddle and he decided to ignore what I had said and got full of mud. I took my protecion from him, he reaped the results (although to him, it might have been worth it!) but it could be said that I allowed him to get full of mud. Don't know if this would help in a study of the origin of evil, but ever since Satan turned his back and rebeled against God, evil was in the world and has had a powerful sway. It is only with the Lord's protecion that we have any protection, by His grace, and when it does touch us, it is only by His strength that we have the strength to stand and weather the situation. God bless- debbie |

50 | Spirtual Gifts | Matt 7:13 | glory777 | 64969
FTimA- I see in your profile you believe denominationalism is of the devil. Does that mean anyone who is not of the denomination you believe is of the devil? If that is your theory, I question whether this is the place for you. There are other viewpoints on many denominational issues in this forum, and those of us who have been involved in the forum have respect for each other and their denominational disagreements. The main thing we will be judged on is our belief in Jesus Christ and that is the MAIN purpose of the forum, I believe. The other is to give clarity to scripture. If you belong to a particular church, you probably believe in what the prevailing attitude in that church believes scripture to mean. You will find different viewpoints here, and respect is given for others, as long as Jesus Christ is glorified. I can find disclaimers for everything you have written (look up tongues in the search box) but no one who doesn't believe it is written for today will believe, just as no one who does believe will agree with what you have said. And, ultimately, will it make a difference? You say none are active today, I say they all are active. Prophesying does not have to be a foretelling, but something the Lord feels the church needs to hear today, something in agreement with His word that is relevent to that particular time that needs to be addressed. If tongues, at that time, was a known language, why would they need an interpreter? And when the perfect is come, - I haven't seen yet. The perfect is when we are seeing the Lord face to face. Then the cloudiness will be gone. debbie |

51 | Joe, | Luke 23:43 | glory777 | 64353
Seeing as we are getting into a lotof conjecture here, may I add something? Isn't it possible He went to the "Hot, dry side" to show them, and all of those who try to turn hearts against God, that He conquered? Jesus won! Satan and his minions have no more power! I think instead of rubbing it in to those there, His presence would show them how wrong they were and how deserving they are of being where they are. At the great White Throne Judgement, everyone will see the Lord, also. I think those who have turned away from the Lord in this life will not really want to be seeing Him then, or ever, so it is His mercy and their choice, to be removed from His presence. As I said, I am just imagining, too, and wandering where wise men fear to tread - no comments about that last statement, PLEASE! Debbie |

52 | Why this mass execution ? | Josh 7:24 | glory777 | 63933
It does seem harsh, but the Lrod can not look on sin and in order to go before the people of Israel, the had to follow Him. The rules were stated and Achan knew them. The people of Israel knew them and had to show the Lord that they wanted to obey Him. Anything left over of Achan's property would have been booty for the rest of Israel, anything of the property that was taken was cursed. Should someone else benefit from someone's sin? Achan's disobedience and subsequent punishment, stopped sin against the Lord from being passed down through his family, and because it was punished by all of the people of Israel, it was affirmation by those who did the execution that they would follow the Lord. Also, by comveting the things of Jericho, he was in essence, identifying himself with the things of Jericho. He doomed himself and all that he had to the same fate as the inhabitants of that city. These are my own thoughts on the matter. Any others? Debbie |

53 | We are also of the order of Melchizedik? | 1 Pet 2:9 | glory777 | 63172
Robert- Isn't there only one other "Royal priest" mentioned in the bible - Melchizedek- Heb. 7:1; Psalm 110:4; Gen. 14:18; and these verses are also stating what position we are to God? I'm not sure where this is going - if anywhere, But does this not mean and states again, that we are to be, or are, given the same access to the Lord, through Jesus, as Jesus has? We are heirs to the King (royal) and we have access (priesthood). What an honor! And how humbling. Debbie |

54 | Joe, baptism required for Lord's Supper? | 1 Cor 11:27 | glory777 | 63171

55 | Joe, baptism required for Lord's Supper? | 1 Cor 11:27 | glory777 | 63143
Hank- Maybe I'm missing something here, but what about an older believer who had been indoctrinated about the Lord's supper but had never had the ooertunity to be baptized? When you live in a very small community in the north where the facilities do not have a baptismal (is that what it is called?) but the river has to suffice - yes, there are a lot of areas like this - mine included- that we have to wait until we can chop the ice off the water before we can partake of the Lord's supper? I am blessed to belong to a church (another small one) that has a man-made pond behind the church. After a few years of being a rededicated believer I found a place that I could be baptized! (Did I mention I have a phobia about leaches - blood suckers we call them, also?) Debbie |

56 | in ot will the peope be judge by law | Rev 20:12 | glory777 | 63129
This may be debated, but I think that, the laws were written to keep the Jews as a separate people (and also a healthier people) and the sacrificial laws were kept to remind people of how much they needed to be saved and, of course, as a poor substitute of our Savior to come. But it is by faith, and faith alone that salvation comes and always has come. Abraham may have observed all the laws and sacrifices, but it was by faith that righteousness was accounted to him. But just as we will be rewarded by our works (if our motives are right) so will they by their law. Debbie |

57 | have to speek in tounges to be saved? | 1 Cor 14:22 | glory777 | 63128
Amanda- Johnny answered correctly. No where does it say in the bible that you have to speak in tongues to be saved. Salvation only comes through the the belief of Jesus' death on behalf of your sins and by your recognizing it as such and asking Him to be Lord of your life. Speaking in tongues is a gift, but I know many who are saved and do not speak in tongues. Tongues is a special "prayer language" that is only for the believer himself. It is private communion between the speaker and God and the speaker doesn't have a clue what he is saying. Sometimes it is just a need to use it (I believe it is an intercessory thing at times) and sometimes it is used when there are no words that are adequate in private praise and prayer. But for salvation - no. Debbie |
