43 | interpret Matthew 20:20-23 | Matt 20:20 | Pastor Glenn | 141827
Hello Silvio, By asking to sit at Jesus' right hand and left, James and John were requesting 2nd and 3rd highest positions in the Kingdom of God. The main point that the Lord wanted them to know is that His Kingdom was the reverse of what they knew of earthly kingdoms. You see, in God's Kingdom, the higher your position, the more slave (servant) duties required: Mark 10 42 But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, "You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. 44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." I hope this helps, Pastor Glenn |

44 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Pastor Glenn | 141812
Hello again Russ, I have been misunderstood in the past, so I know it is a bad feeling. Are we misunderstanding you here? After reading your profile, I think that I now have a better understanding of your view of the scriptures. I think that what you have been trying to say is that since God has done so much for you, He is more to you than all that you have learned from scripture so far. I may be wrong, so correct me. Also, your gratitude to Him and your fellowship with Him is on-going; a continuing fellowship that is difficult to express by quoting scripture. The "warm fussy" feeling is from feeling unworthy of the great miracle as He brought you back to life. You indeed have a high regard for scripture, but since you know Him and communicate personally with Him through prayer and study ... Am I on the right track here about you? Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

45 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Pastor Glenn | 141774
Dear brother Russ, Please understand why we are harping on the importance of scripture. Do you understand the danger in minimizing the importance of scripture? Do you realize how your statements are being perceived? I am sure that you have heard of the church denomination that chose a homosexual man to the office of Bishop. Well, that decision came a few years after they began to minimize the importance of the Holy Scriptures. You must understand the danger here: 2 Tim 3 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Hello Russ, "While there is good in all of the Scriptures, there is more to Christianity than just the scriptures. We mustn’t get lost in that. ...." Here is more scripture: 2 Tim 3 16All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 2:15 (New King James Version) Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. You are right, there is more to Christianity than the scriptures, but that is like saying that there is more to a house than just a foundation. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

47 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Pastor Glenn | 141651
"... We can do nothing on our own, not even love the Lord as He has commanded!..." Yes, and not only that, but sometimes the Spirit has to make intercession for us: Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. It is so good to know that God has even our deepest thoughts and prayers covered. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

48 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Pastor Glenn | 141635
hello mommapbs, With all of my long response, I may have missed the heart of you question: "I suspect that obeying Him without the love that He demands (Love the Lord your God with all your heart - what does this look like?)is often lacking in our "works."“ Well, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart" is when we have no hangups in our love. We need to realize that He made us and therefore understands all of our needs and thoughts better than us. It also involves gaining a trust in Him that His plans for us are far better than our plans for ourselves: Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Psalms 40:5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. Isaiah 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Matthew 12:42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. 2Chronicles 9:6 Howbeit I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard. 1Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 49 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Pastor Glenn | 141632
Hello mommapbs! "Greeting Pastor Glenn, Doc and Aixen7z4, - I'd like your input on Incarnational reality (Col 1:27) and practicing the presence of God in our daily lives - I suspect this might be a corollary to "loving His appearing" as mentioned earlier in this thread. I liked the article Doc linked to - How do I know I love God? “ OK Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: “We read in John 14 that loving Jesus is obeying Him - to me this has the potential for becoming legalistic or "religious". I suspect that obeying Him without the love that He demands (Love the Lord your God with all your heart - what does this look like?)is often lacking in our "works."“ Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. This does have the potential to become legalistic if we have the wrong “commandments”. I believe that Jesus was not referring to the Law of Moses. Instead, He must be referring to the Law of Love or the Golden Rule. Luk 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. Luk 10:28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 1Timothy 6:14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 1John 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1John 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. 2John 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. 1John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Galatians 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. James 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: “I've been thinking about "Incarnational reality" for a while now . . . How does the presence of Christ IN us affect our thoughts and actions (or how should it?). . . Unlike David, we need not long for His presence for He is always with us - yet in the dark night of the soul, I admit I have felt pretty alone . . . If He is IN Me and I am in Him - what causes me to think that He is absent at those dark times? Is practicing the presence of God (ie Br. Lawrence)the answer? What scriptures support this? Comments?” Br. Lawrence? Christ in us affects our thoughts and actions to seek to please Him because of our great love for Him. Without faith is impossible to please Him. Therefore, we walk after the Spirit by faith (not by sight) in His word and we love our neighbor as ourselves because this is the number one fruit of the Spirit. We find ourselves with hunger and thirst for the Word of God, because we come to realize, by Him living in us, that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord. Mommapbs, you mentioned: “…in the dark night of the soul, I admit I have felt pretty alone . . . If He is IN Me and I am in Him - what causes me to think that He is absent at those dark times? “ Our feelings can be deceiving. Feelings do not change reality. I can feel that I am 20 years old again, but that does not change the reality that I am actually 20 plus 26. I can also feel alone while in the same room with another person. If I have a strong relationship with that person, then I should feel less lonely. In the case of feeling alone with Jesus, it may be due to not fully trusting Him to really care about our feelings. But here is a scripture that should help: Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

Wow Doc, that is a great twist to the question: "How do we know that we love God?" In other words, we can truly know that we are saved by how much we love Jesus. Here is a relevant scripture: 2Timothy 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. |

51 | Did God cause the tsunami | Mark | Pastor Glenn | 141493
“Hi Pastor Glen, What you do in this life is judged when Jesus Returns, why Question me or try to trip me up. “ Well, hello again Higgy! You are right. What we do in this life is judged when Jesus returns. But, the bible tells us that God provides consequences now in this life also. This fact has not changed in New Testament times either. I was not trying to trip you up. What I was trying to do is inspire you to read and study your bible concerning these questions. My previous questions were from two New Testament scriptures that specifically apply to our question here. In your last post, you spoke about Mark 13. That was good, but it was not specific enough concerning the question of whether God provides consequences in this life, as well as in the Great Judgment. “Do you believe God judges and punishes people for their sins once they commit them. If so Pastor Glen why would Jesus judge us for what we did in our life time. “ That is a very good question. Let’s not go on my pre-conceived understandings. Let’s search the scriptures daily to find out whether these things are so. First, here are scriptures concerning searching the bible: John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. “This is not a perfect world; we are cursed ever since ADAM and Eve eat from the tree of knowledge. Natural disasters are part of this imperfect world, that’s why this world will be consumed in the lake of fire, making the way for a New World and New Heaven. This is also why we have an AID’s epidemic in Africa and elsewhere in the world, or do think this is Gods doing?. “ Whether disasters and epidemics come “directly” from God or “indirectly” by man’s evil ways, is not the question. We do know that He has used disasters like the Great Flood and plagues like He brought on Egypt in the past. He also brought consequences on King David for his sins. So the question is “has God changed the way He handles sin in this life”? “We are on our last chance, …. Those in this world who persecute Christians are not struck down dead instantly for their deeds, …. “ It is true that “Those in this world who persecute Christians are not struck down dead instantly for their deeds…”. But the question is not whether or not they are struck down “instantly”. God often give some time for repentance, as you say. But He does punish sin in this life: Psa 37:1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. Psa 37:2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Psa 37:9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. Psa 37:10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. “I am disappointed that you as a Pastor have not grasped this fundamental truth. … The Bible explains God’s Holy Word in Black and White and it is so clear to understand.” Higgy I am also disappointed that you did not answer my questions directly. You see, those questions were based on New Testament scriptures that you really need to know and study. “AS I SAID “God is a loving God” he has given us time to repent, for God does not want to lose one soul to the devil. As Jesus said if a Shepard loses one sheep does he not leave the rest to search for that lost sheep? This is how great the Lords love is for us. But if we chose to go our own way through this world, then we can only accept to be punished for not accepting Jesus as our lord and master in this world and the next.” The scripture concerning the Shepard that leaves the 99 to find the one lost is one of my favorite in the bible. Then are you agreeing with me when you say “But if we chose to go our own way through this world, then we can only accept to be punished for not accepting Jesus as our lord and master in this world and the next.”? “I don’t mean to offend you with this reply, but I just can’t understand the content of your reply to me.” My previous questions were from the following scriptures. Please read them in context and answer my previous questions about them: Acts 5:2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. Ephesians 6:2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; Your Brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

Hello Higgy, "... Therefore why would God allow this act when he is a loving God, Concerned for All life." What if I told you that God killed two Christian people for lying to the Holy Spirit. What if I said that they were a married couple that conspired to tell the same lie. Would you believe that God really did that since, as you say, "He is a loving God"? Or would God simply wait until they died naturally years later? Also, what if a Christian child was continually disobedient to his parents all his life? Would you expect that God might shorten his life or let him live longer than normal to have more time to repent? Your Brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

Hello Higgy, "But don’t worry; I don’t believe this to be an act of God. Before Jesus was sent to earth, God would have used such disasters to punish the wicked, but we are off the new way. " Can you provide scripture to support these statements? What do you mean by "we are of(f) the new way"? We may not understand why so many people were killed from many countries, but how do we know that it was not an act of God? Amos 3 6 If a trumpet is blown in a city, will not the people be afraid? If there is calamity in a city, will not the LORD have done it? 7 Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. "We have been given the chance to ask for forgiveness in believing that Jesus came to earth and was crucified for our sins. In doing so those who believe in Jesus and try to obey Gods laws have nothing to fear." Amen. Pastor Glenn |

"... What if the man in Genesis 1 was different from the man in Genesis two. If so, we can't say how old the earth was. This is just an example of how we might be relying too heavily on one interpretation. " Gen 1 26Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all[b] the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Wouldn't that make Jesus the "third" Adam? And who was that man and woman that recieved all of that dominion? And why would Jesus quote Gen chapter 1? Pastor Glenn |

Hello EdB, "The resistance to accept the bible account is so strong that we are not allowing everyone that holds that view serious consideration. Science knows there are errors and contradictions in their theories but rather than trying to find out what is the problem they continue to treat the theory as valid." Amen. Basic questions like on the atomic scale: "What gives the electrons energy to keep orbit" are left completely unanswered. And on the galactic scale: "What is "Dark Matter" (perform Google search) that makes up 96 percent of the universe?" They don't know the basics, but they rigidly cling to supposed knowledge of details. Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. 56 | Aren't we in the age of GRACE? | Rom 8:28 | Pastor Glenn | 141195
Hello ngkh, "For e.g. the following was my experience. Before I came to the Lord, at times when I was presented the bill after a meal, I noticed that the restaurant had left some items out. Did I call the waiter to inform him of the error. I am ashamed to admit that I quickly paid the bill and thought how lucky I was. However, same scenarios happened again now after being a christian. With no hesitation, I have always informed the waiter of the error and paid what ever is due. Was I afraid of the law? I don't think so. The law was never in my mind. I believe the holy spirit in me told me to do what is right." Excellent ngkh, you did not have to obey specific laws. The general law of love (from God) made you do the right thing. "By living in the age of grace, I believe it means that the holy spirit is in us now when we believe and by Jesus blood, even when I have sinned in the past, I've got a clean slate the moment I said my sinners prayer and by growing in Him, the holy spirit will dwell in me that I no longer have to think about the law for as Paul had said the law shall have no dominion over me." That is right. "Question is, do I truly believe that the holy sprit is in me? I believe it does. But then again, why am I at times questioned God when I believe that the spirit is in me? If I questioned God which means my faith level is only at this height, does it mean that the spirit I have is only in my head? I don't know. Perhaps Pastor Glen will be kind to help me out on this." Actually, I just read an excellent post by CDBJ that addresses this directly. Please type the numbers 141191 into your "Quick Search" box of your display window and click on the "Search" button to see his post. "As per my church's theme for this year. "Grow yourselves to grow others". I wondered on how on earth do I grow. After 18 months, I still have yet to read the bible from cover to cover and there are so much things I want to comprehend. " Sounds like a very good church. After only 18 months, you are growing just fine. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

57 | Sorry | Rom 8:28 | Pastor Glenn | 141107
Hello ngkh, Actually, God understands your feelings: Jer 9 24 But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight," says the LORD. It is so good to know that God delights in exercising lovingkindness, judgement, and righteousness in the earth. God's lovingkindness for us is far greater than our parents' (John 3:16). Since He does not have to answer to anyone and He is all powerful, we wonder if He is overdoing it sometimes. But remember, He does not want to destroy anyone: Eze 33 11Say to them: "As I live,' says the Lord GOD, "I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?' Isaiah 55 6 Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. 8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD. 9 "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. Heb 4 14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. I hope this helps, Pastor Glenn |

EdB, Your right. Majority text is probably not as good as Majority "Sources" (Josephus, Africanus, 1Ch1:24, 2Ch, Targum, Beza’s most ancient Greek copy of Luke). "Sources" is probably closer to what is meant by "witnesses" in Deut 19:15. Pastor Glenn |
