Oops!! The phrase "Submit to God, Resist the Devil" does not belong in this scripture. It was a heading that I inadvertantly copied. 1 Peter 5:5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." [ Proverbs 3:34] James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (NKJV) Pastor Glenn |

23 | Why this is not taught? | 1 John 3:9 | Pastor Glenn | 145116
Hello Brother Tim, "I'm not sure that they present so much a struggle as a choice." Maybe. :o) But isn't a carnal Christian struggling in his choices between flesh and spirit? "This would certainly indicate to me that while a believer can give into the flesh, he is no longer a slave to it." Yes, but for how long can a believer give in to the flesh before he is considered a slave to it; a moment, a month, or a few years? I motion that the scriptures are showing that we are the slaves of sin each and every time that we choose to walk after the flesh: Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 24 | Why this is not taught? | 1 John 3:9 | Pastor Glenn | 145102
Hello Brother Tim, "Romans 6 doesn't teach two natures residing together, but the death of the old man." Rom 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Does'nt these verses indicate a choice for the Christian to yield to God (walk after the spirit) rather than to walk after the flesh? I thought that the word "carnal" would be useful in this study. After performing a search using the word carnal here is what I got: Romans 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Romans 15:27 It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things. 1Corinthians 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 1Corinthians 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 1Corinthians 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? Is'nt carnality the same as being babes in Christ? Heb 5:11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. Galatians 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Does'nt these scriptures indicate a struggle within the Christian; Sprit vs Flesh? Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

"afraid of these rivers"... you fraid..tes river Eu fraid..tes river Euphrates river ;-) I think I get it EdB. Well anyway, it was clever for whoever put up the "Missouri river" sign for the other river. However, the LDS churches should be made to pay any ransom demanded for the Euphrates since it was taken while they were supposed to be watching. The Euphrates must be returned to near the Garden of Eden where it belongs (Gen 2:14). Pastor Glenn |

Hello Justme, "... You may not know that the Garden of Eden was located in Independance, Missouri, at least accroding to the RLDS, and the LDS churches. ..." Well, I just want to know what Apostle Thomas would say about that. You know, he may be the one that started the Missouri state motto: "show me". Another thing, how does the LDS churches explain how the Euphrates river got sent to Iraq? Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

"This is encouraging, Pastor. I meant no disrespect to anyone who has read this book or has used it. I was just expressing my general observations and impressions -- though flawed and humble they may be!" Hello again Doc, I do not feel disrespected at all by your comments. As a matter of fact, my own dear mother also objected to us using this book or any other in bible study. She said, "These sixty-six books are all we need". She was right to a certain extent; we need to know how to teach the bible first and formost. So I made the same speech to her as I did to you in my last post. Let me tell you about my Mother Glenn. Well, my mother at 82 years young is forgetful and often forgets the names of her 9 children. So during bible study, every few minutes she would ask "What is this book? (The Purpose Driven Life)" or "What scripture are we studying?". So, I had to repeat my same speech about 5 times each week. However, even with her forgetfulness, she does not forget the scriptures and can more than hold her own in any bible study lesson. Whenever I should point out to her that the Lord has really blessed her memory when it comes to bible knowledge and understanding, she will then name all the books one by one and end with "... sixty-six books, thats all we need". So, she is right and you are right. If we don't know how to teach the bible "first", then no other books are going to help. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

Hello Doc, I would like to add my 2 cents also. "I've scanned the book at Wal-Mart. I guess I might have had some bias against it right there. Books on theology sold at Wal-Mart are generally the first indication that you aren't looking at something terribly deep." You are right that this book is not terribly deep, but the bible is deep in many areas. We have used this book for bible study at our church. There really is no great problem when it is taught as prescribed. The same problems that we see in this book also mostly apply to "poor" bible study. The book is meant as a an aid to one particular bible subject; God's purpose for our lives as individuals. The bible is the only book that is meant to be studied prayerfully with the aid of the Holy Spirit to teach us God's meaning and God's understanding. That is why the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom. When the “scriptures” that Rick Warren cites (and there are many) are studied correctly, I see very little problems with this book. We need to always keep the focus on the scriptures when studying any book. If we teach correctly as Phillip did by the leading of the Holy Spirit for the Ethiopian Eunuch, then we can all help disciple others for Christ. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

31 | Isaiah 14 - Lucifer's people? | Is 14:12 | Pastor Glenn | 142598
Hello Brother Tim, I have great respect for your posts, but I wanted to point out that other scriptures are also addressing individuals, as well as, Satan. When Satan is indwelling a person, God has addressed both of them in the same passages: Gen 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Notice how dialog directed to the serpent in verse 14 is quickly redirected to Satan in verse 15. We see this again in Ezekiel 28, as well as, in John 13:27. Joh 13:27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly. Matthew 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Any comments? 1 Kings 18:21 Elijah came near to all the people and said, "How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people did not answer him a word. Agnostic? Indifferent? Undecided? Hesitant? Adam and Eve were made with free will. If Satan had not tempted Eve, would they have remained in the garden forever? Why did God allow Satan into the garden? Why did He put the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil into the garden? Should God let us remain indifferent towards Him? Any Comments? Pastor Glenn |

34 | Why the spotlight on gays? | Prov 6:16 | Pastor Glenn | 142423
Hello Doc, “The question is this: In what way do we offer light? How do we know we are doing this sufficiently or not? Do we simply say, "Jesus loves you?" Or do we actually help men to know truth, sin, and the nature of God? In what way are we salt?” We offer light by living godly so that people may see our good works: Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Also, we are living bible scripture letters: 2Co 3:2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: 2Co 3:3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. We are salt when we effect change all around us. “Do we just stave off inevitable judgement, or do we actually contribute to making the world a better place for the reprobate and elect alike? (That is what our God does.)” There is no such thing as “inevitable” judgment. Judgment, whether on the individual level or the national level, can be averted completely: Individual: Eze 33:18 When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby. Eze 33:19 But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby. National: Jer 18:7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; Jer 18:8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. Jer 18:9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; Jer 18:10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them. “I appreciated your comments regarding judgement. I don't remember ever stopping to think about what it meant that "Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation." I suppose I had always thought it was metaphorical.” Yes, the Lord drives home the point that all people need to be ready for Judgment Day. If we die in Christ, we are pardoned from sin: Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. “You stated, "We need to remember also that after the Great Flood, everyone knew God." I hadn't imagined that Paul was talking about post-deluvian man. I thought it was more general than that.” You are right. It is more general than that. I was simply giving an example. “Even the Greeks and Romans new something about God (Pythagoras is a good example of one of the ancient philosophers who talked about a "one God.") This Greek word, "ginosko" is not a personal or intimate knowledge, but a general knowledge, an awareness. If he had meant an intimate, personal knowledge, Paul would have used the word "eido." (See 2 Thes 1:8, Hebrews 8:11, 10:30, and elsewhere.)” The general knowledge that is spoken of in Romans 1:20, should inspire anyone to seek the Lord intimately; as did the men of Nineveh, as well as, the queen of Sheba: Mat 12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. Mat 12:42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. Hello Doc, “I will ask you a question in return: what is meant by God's call to us to be salt and light? In what way can we influence the world around us? “ Mat 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. “What single group can turn to God and have Him heal their land? Will the land heal otherwise?” These are scriptures that come to mind in consideration of these questions: 2Ch 7:13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; 2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Jer 18:7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; Jer 18:8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. Jer 18:9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; Jer 18:10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them. We need to remember also that after the Great Flood, everyone knew God. Every nation on earth had living ancestors since the 8 survivors lived hundreds of years. I have no doubt that God will hold family leaders and various national leaders responsible for “not glorifying Him as God”. Romans 1 cannot be limited at all to the church. The scripture at 2Chron 7:14 does not apply to Romans 1, as the website suggests. Jesus said that the men of Nineveh would rise on Judgment Day against this wicked generation and condemn it. Because they repented after only one sermon from one preacher. This applies to all men world-wide, as does Romans 1: Mat 12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. Mat 12:42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. The phrase “…When they knew God…” (verse 21) cannot mean the church corporately or else the phrase “…God gave them up…” (verse 24) would also have to apply corporately to the church. In that case there would be no more church today. That cannot happen since Jesus said the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (His church, Mat 16:18). Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Any comments? Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

Ezekiel 16:49 Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. Gen 19 4 Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. 5 And they called to Lot and said to him, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? "... I will not use His name to inflict hate or fear into another...." Hate is not the issue. It is seldom that hate is displayed from Christians towards homosexuals. However, "fear of the Lord" provides us with boundaries or lines that we will not cross: 2 Kings 17:25 And it was so, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they did not fear the LORD; therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which killed some of them. Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever. Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 9:10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Hello Bill, Based on these scriptures, the indication is strongly "angelic beings": 2Peter 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. |

Hello Searcher, "I don't think Noah preached. Only Noah was found righteous (Gen 6:9) and we are not saved by the acts of anyone else" It took me a while to look up supporting scripture that Noah preached. But I did find it. Please notice, "...a preacher of righteousness..." (2Pe 2:5). Gen 6:18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. 1Pe 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 1Pe 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 2Pe 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; As fathers, we have an enourmous influence over our families, but we must use that influence to save our families. Abraham used his influence to force his servants and children to cut their flesh through circumcision. Obedience is important to salvation as for those that sprinkled blood on their door posts in Egypt. Also, God thought so much of Abraham's command of his house that He informed him of the judgement coming on Sodom and Gomorrah: Gen 18:17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; Gen 18:18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? Gen 18:19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
