322 | Condemnation and judgment? | James 3:1 | Mommapbs | 123858
Greek scholars: The Amplified uses the word condemnation (krima) when it references judgment. How does this align with Romans 8:1 there is no condemnation (katakrima) for those who are in Christ Jesus?
323 | Wrong motives and/or wrong things? | James 4:3 | Mommapbs | 82905
When we ask God for something and we don't get what we want is it because our motives are wrong or do we want the wrong thing? Is wanting the wrong thing the same as having a wrong motive? How does one avoid "wrong motives?" How does one align himself as Jesus did when He said, "Not My will but Thy will be done."? (Luke 22:42) PS:Does anyone know who said: "Disappointment is God's hint that He has something better in mind?" |

325 | What causes a holier than thou attitude? | James 4:4 | Mommapbs | 84483
Greetings Scribe - I am reminded of the passage, "For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing;to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things?" 2 Cor 2:15-16. I appreciate your encouragement to walk in the Light and remain devoted to Christ (which will result in holiness as Christ lives through me), However I struggle a bit with the directive you suggest that I "reproove their deeds by my lifestyle." This, in my opinion, may result in a "holier than thou attitude" that some believers exhibit in response to those who do not know Christ (as well as to other believers who do not measure up to their standard of "holy living!") See Ex 34:30 - perhaps when others perceive that we have "been with the Lord," they too respond in fear which is manifest in behaviors that we misinterpret personally. As the Lord said to Samuel when Israel asked for a king, "for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them." 1 Sam 8:7 What might be some causes of a "holier than thou" attitude toward others who are in rebellion? How do we guard against this? mommapbs |

What does it mean to suffer in the flesh? For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong. 1 Peter 3:17 Can we do what is right in our flesh? Comments please. |

331 | WHO pays the wage? | 1 John 1:9 | Mommapbs | 134180
Angel - you wrote: "The wage of sin is death--this never stops being true, even for those who come to Christ and willfully chose to return to sin!" So then what hope or confidence do I have as a believer if Christ's death was not sufficient to pay the "wage" of my sin? Of what purpose was Christ's death if my sins result in death? As you noted from Romans 6 - When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. . . .You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. What does it mean to be set free from sin? Does it mean that I no longer sin or that I am set free from the "wages" of sin? Are you saying that IF we don't confess our willful sin, we will pay the wage???? |

333 | Salvation by Grace and . . .? | 1 John 2:2 | Mommapbs | 34164
Greetings again Markarios! You wrote:"You have to believe that Jesus is Lord, repent of your sins, and confess Him as Lord of your life, and you will be saved!" How does your statement compare to Romans 10:9? "if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;" How does your assertion compare to Ephesians 2:8-10? "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;not as a result of works, so thatno one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." Where does "Lord of your life" fit into the picture of salvation by grace? Did the thief on the cross make Jesus the "Lord of his life?" How? Was he saved or not? I look forward to your responses! Blessings, Mommapbs |

334 | Why exclude the ressurrection of Christ? | 1 John 2:2 | Mommapbs | 34185
Thank you Reformer Joe! Why would Paul assert that belief in the ressurrection is important? (See also 1 Cor 15)How come this seems to be excluded from the posted formula for salvation? (I don't mean to stir the pot, but this kind of bothers me.)Since Paul attaches sigificance to believing that "God has raised Him from the dead" in the plan of salvation, could it be that it is important to know not only WHO you believe in but also WHAT you believe about Him? Also, it would be good to clarify what the difference is between Jesus as Lord and Jesus as Lord of one's life. Refer to Matthew 7:21-23 and James 2:19 Even the demons know Jesus is Lord and tremble! This is an awesome truth! Blessings in Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith! Momma |

335 | Some additonal questions on this verse | 1 John 4:3 | Mommapbs | 87473
After reading through some posts on this verse I'd like to examine this portion: "every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God" Are these (spirits) strictly referring to satan and his followers? Does unregenerate man possess this spirit? Can a non-believer be called an antichrist? What did Jesus mean when He said, "He who is not with Me is against Me;"? (Mt 12:30) Does the devil have the ability to "pour out his spirit" upon mankind? (Please support your answer) |

Greetings DairlyLeader5: You wrote, " God opened a window to the future to allow Jesus to look at the difference that his life would make for us and the world." Wouldn't Jesus already have KNOWN that? What kind of anxiety did Jesus have? Please support this statement. mommapbs |
