2961 | How do we know the Bible is the truth? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 18156
The Bible is true First because God has said it is. 2 Tim. 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; Hebrews 6:18 so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, ... Secondly because no fact contained in the Bible has ever been proven false. Read "Evidence That Demands a Verdict" Vols. 1 and 2 ISBN 0-918956-46-3 Vol. 1 and 0-9188956-73-0 Vol. 2 both Published by Here's Life Publishers. The Book of Mormom, the Quran, the New World Translation all contain provable errors. EdB |

2962 | Possible Lockman Forum Improvements #2 | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 18059
Sir Pent On this issue I think point #1 is most important we have people giving answers to questions nobody understands enough to answer. I chuckle at the eagerness of some responders jumping on a question when there is no possible way from the wording of the question to understand what is being asked. Point #2 I think that is just common sense, however many have displayed a total absence of that quality in this area. Point #3 is the most important and one I have been campaigning for since the inception of this forum. It was the cause for my initial refusal to participate when first invited. In many if not most threads there are all kinds of ideas, thoughts, beliefs and teachings. How is one to decide what is reliable, what is not? However as I have been informed so many times a summary unless done from a completely neutral perspective would actually end up being a statement of the summarizers biases, beliefs, prejudices, and opinion. In truth there is no one neutral enough. My opinions, that and price of a cup of coffee will get you just that - a cup of coffee! EdB |

2963 | Let not thy body be a chimney | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 18016
Leroy there is only one place in the bible that uses the word chimney. Hosea 13:3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney. The phrase "let not thy body" does not occur in the bible. I have no idea of what your thinking, sorry. |

2965 | Possible Lockman Forum Improvement #1? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 17883
Sir Pent Greetings in the Powerful name of Jesus. I too would like to see duplicates removed, however I agree with Charis it is probably too big of a job. The Forum users can do a lot to prevent this just be standing firm when a subject has been discussed by responding with, 'This topic has been discussed in thread "such and such" please read that thread and if you desire append your question to that thread.' As far as duplicate entries I think that just takes patience which we the users of this forum need to have. That all said, let me say if Lockman can eliminate duplicates by combining threads I'm all for it. I also vote for spell checker EdB |

2966 | can you lose your salvation | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 17789
Since everyone seems to want to venture into this let me say one more thing. Unless you are actively involved in sin or plan to be, the answer should hold no interest to you. If your in sin, think about what your doing, your like a child, your mother says "No! don't do that or I will smack you". You then continue on to see how far you can push. If your mother was like mine you couldn't push past a second warning. Why do you want to act like a child with God, saying, "if I do this will you forgive me?" "Okay how about I do this will you still forgive me?" and etc. Let's stop this before it starts. I really don't care what Calvin or Arminius said! If you really love Jesus, the answer is not of any importance in your life. EdB |

2967 | can you lose your salvation | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 17788
Hi As I said in the other thread this has been discussed in every context. I'm sure you will find your answer if you will search on salvation, Calvanism, eternal or security. By the way are you planing to sin? If not what difference does an answer to your question make? the only ones that should care about this is people engaged in sin and if your in engaged in sin and worried I suspect you haven't lost the conviction of the Holy Spirit which means the Holy Spirit still with you hence your not lost. Can you push it? Why play with fire? |

2968 | Proverb Bible study? | Proverbs | EdB | 17748
Donna I’m not aware of any specific study but I’m sure there are many available. You might check a local Bible Book store. May I suggest you do your own bible study on Proverbs. Most of the verses are self contained, by that I mean you really don’t need any outside source to help explain or interpret them for you. If you have any specific questions I’m sure the forum would be more than happy to assist you in reaching an answer. Proverbs are excellent for daily devotions, I have made it a point to read a proverb chapter a day for that last 12 years so I guess I have read through proverbs over hundred times. I still find new and exciting revelation, encouragement and tips in day to day living and conduct. The wisdom contained there is to be treasured. Be Blessed and be a Blessing EdB |

2969 | can you lose your salvation | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 17742
This subject has been debated over and over. It is a highly inflammatory subject and one without end. It has caused much division and strife on this forum. Because it is so inflammatory and because it has been debated for centuries without conclusion there has been more or less a gentleman’s agreement made to stay away from the subject. However, if you want do a search on salvation, Calvinism, once saved always saved, eternal security, you should find enough to answer you questions or whet any appetite. Be Blessed and Be a Blessing EdB |

2970 | New to the Word | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 17673
Hi "awitnesstohiswork" and welcome to the forum. At one time I would have given much the same advice as many have given here, get a good study Bible and have at it. However through a set of circumstances I got introduced to Kay Arthur’s Inductive Study approach to the Bible. It is an excellent approach because you get God’s meaning and interpretation, not the author’s who wrote the Study Bible. Also when you take the Inductive approach you are reasonably sure your going to get an understanding that hasn’t been affected by previous teachings or ideas. At first blush it may seem to be a huge task to study the Bible inductively, but I have found anything worth having does take effort. There is an excellent book that explains the process and expected results to be gained. “How To Study Your Bible” by Kay Arthur, Harvest House Publishers, ISBN 1-56507-173-5 |

2971 | Why did David choose five stones? | John 3:16 | EdB | 17485
Because Goliath had 4 brothers see 2 Samuel 21:15-22. David was prepared to kill Goliath and his four brothers if need be. Just as Norrie stated earlier |

2972 | Can we agree? | Hebrews | EdB | 17387
Kelkat You said "God is the creator of all things. God created man and gave him dominion over the earth. Man sinned, and gave dominion to Satan. (don't get me wrong, God is all powerful. He can, at anytime, do what ever He will.) Jesus came earth, walked as a man with the Holy Spirit working through him." Where does it even hint that Satan got dominion of anything from man? God gave man dominion over the living creatures of earth (stay within context), have you ever noticed how all but the hungriest or injured of animals submit or yield to man? That is the dominion spoken of in Genesis. God owns the earth and all that is in it. Gen 13:17 Gen 14:19 Gen 31:9 Ex 9:29 Ex 13:2 Ex 13:12 Ex 19:5 Ex 22:30 Ex 34:19 Lev 25:23 Lev 27:26 Nu 18:6 Nu 18:12 Nu 33:53 De 10:14 Jos 6:2 Jos 6:19 Jos 6:24 1Ch 29:11 1Ch 29:14 Job 41:11 Ps 24:1 Ps 50:10 Ps 60:7 Ps 74:16 Ps 89:11 Ps 95:5 Ps 104:24 Ps 108:8 Ps 115:16 Je 27:5 Eze 29:3 Eze 29:9 Eze 29:20 Eze 36:5 Da 4:17 Joel 3:5 Hag 2:8 Mt 5:35 Mt 20:15 Mt 21:3 Mt 25:14 Lu 19:23 Lu 19:31 Ac 17:25 1Co 10:26 1Co 10:28 Satan can do nothing without permission from God. Read Job. Satan must report, apparently fairly regularly, to God and confess what he has been doing. Again read Job. Notice the way Satan answers when addressed by God, does that show you who is in control. Satan does not dominion of earth he has permission to do only what God allows him. This dominion teaching came from them and nothing in the Bible supports it. You are so use to hearing it you never questioned it. |

2973 | Where are you getting your information? | Hebrews | EdB | 17375
Kelkat The problems with their ministries have been well documented many places. One John MacArthur wrote a number of books about some of their bad teaching; Charismatic Chaos, Learn to Discern and others. Various apologetic groups have documented their teachings; Christian Research Institute and etc. There are also a number of web sites that you can find their quotes, mis-teachings, heresies, and misdirection. Another is Hank Hanegraaff’s two books “Christainity in Crisis” and “Counterfeit Revival”. Within these books the author not only documents what was said but provides date, times, places. If any of it had been false or untrue believe me he would have been sued to the hills, which he wasn’t. I have sat under most of those you mentioned and have heard their teachings and I have also heard their error. Other less bold men have clearly spoken of this erroneous teaching without mentioning the name of the individual that said it. Men like Dobson, Colson, Rogers and others. |

2975 | Can I trust this Pastor? | Hebrews | EdB | 16910
Jensen I basically agree with everything that was written in regards to your question. However I have a concern, if your questioning this man over this are you looking for problems? Or is there something else you have seen that is making you doubt him? The word says the sheep will hear their shepherd's voice, if your not hearing or don't trust this man then maybe you do need to look else where. If it is an issue of not trusting anyone then you need to get alone with God and settle that issue first. |

2976 | Did Jesus spend 3 days in hell? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 16686
The word that is translated hell means the holding place for those that died before Christ. Jesus painted a picture of this in the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31. One side of it is Abraham’s bosom or Paradise where the righteous that died dwelt and on the other a hot dry place where the unrighteous that died dwelt. Jesus upon his death went to Abraham’s bosom or Paradise and preached the Good News, He then lead captivity captive and took them to His father in Heaven. Jesus at this time took His blood and presented it before the Altar in the Tabernacle of the Lord which is in heaven as seen in Hebrews 9. When we die we no longer go to Abraham’s bosom but rather directly to heaven as Paul told us to be absent from the body is present with the Lord. 2 Cor. 5:8 The unrighteous souls in the hot dry place remain there until the Great White Thorn of Judgement at which point they will be thrown into the Lake of Fire. No Jesus did not spend 3 days in hell, his body spent three days in the grave only to arise again on the third day. This fantasy that Jesus went to hell and wrestled with the devil is nonsense. First of all the Satan isn’t in hell, he is on the earth roaming like a lion seeking those to destroy. Jesus didn’t go down to hell to be tormented by the Satan since hell isn’t a place where Satan or his demons torment people, besides they want nothing to do with hell anymore than we do. |

Most probably there were blacks at the crucifixion. In fact many believe Simon the Cyrenian who helped carry the cross was black.
2978 | Why don't Muslims eat pork? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 16682
They generally follow the Pentateuch (first five books of the Bible). However they believe Isaac's name and Ishmael's name were interchanged by the Jews.
2979 | Where was God? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 16666
Prayon I like Jim's response, God was there! God's prespective of death is different than ours look at Job's children. We always talk about Job but what about his children they lost their lives in that encounter. I don't understand all I know on this subject but of this I'm sure. Romans 8:28 "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." I also know that God is just, but His ways are not man's ways. Let His Name be glorified. |

2980 | This is in regard to this forum.. | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 16663
You just asked a question that has concerned me from the start of this forum. Any answer you receive here may or may not be correct. In all cases it will be what the writer believes to be true but as you know each of us have preconceived thoughts and ideas that affect our belief. There also has been much junk posted on this forum. Even the major contributors at times have posted things that they later had to repent for or at least they should have. I said all of that to say this, take what you read here and compare it to scripture, seek the leading of the Holy Spirit, and possibly ask your pastor about it. If all of these agree then it is probably right.
