2981 | Apostle or not? | Matt 19:28 | EdB | 16487
Tim I totally agree with you Matthias was a legitimate apostle. However I will question a little your statement of the two stones the High Priest carried in his breastplate. I presume you are referring to the Urim and Thummim. I do not believe we are totally sure what they were or how they were used. I know most speculation holds them to be two dies used to determine God’s will before the Holy Spirit was given. However that to the best of my knowledge has never been proven. Do you have something that gives more insight? I will however agree that casting lots was a very common practice to determine God’s will. |

2982 | Was Mohammed a man of peace or war? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 16445
Yes. Most certainly they view him as a hero. In an effort to raise money to finance his new religion he robbed caravans and slaughtered many. After being driven from Mecca and he went to Medina where he waged war on Mecca. He finally succeeded and capture the area. He was once wounded in Battle. Quran most certainly specifies violence in conversion and elimination of unbelievers. Any non believer is an infidel and infidels are of no use and are to be eliminated. Islam is a violent and harsh religion, ruled over by a harsh and unforgiving God. |

2984 | May I baptize? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 16359
You must be a believer and I believe you must feel the permission of God to assume this awesome task. There are no stated Biblical perquisites that must be met. |

2985 | Do you understand Islam vs. Christianity | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 16355
Okay. Your obviously not willing to go seek an answer. The God of Islam is a made up deity formulated in the mind of Mohammed. Mohammed’s God favored or bestowed his blessings not on Isaac but rather Ishmael. Mohammed’s God will weigh the works of each man and if the good works outweigh the bad works that person would then go to heaven. If the inverse is found to be true that person would then go to hell. The God of Mohammed is a God that is vengeful and unloving and very unforgiving. If a follower of Islam steps out of line he expects Allah to slap him down. Mohammed’s God does not have a son Jesus, and he is not a triune being, he is simply Allah. Jesus is nothing more than a great prophet like Mohammed. Here is a great inconsistency within Islam, they view Jesus a great man and prophet but they also must consider him a liar since Jesus said He and God were one. Mohammed’s God requires everyone to be a follower of Islam. There are two classes of people believers and Infidels. All infidels are to be converted or eliminated. If you go to war to convert or eliminate Infidels it is called a Jihad. Should you be killed in a Jihad you instantly go to the highest heaven where you are given 72 virgins as beautiful as rubies with skin like pearls. There you have unrestricted sex for all eternity. Mohammed’s God views women as chattel, they can be bought, sold and mistreated to the point of death with almost total impunity. Mohammed’s God is said to be the author of the teachings of the Pentateuch, and followers of Islam keep most of the teachings of those five books. Anyone who is Christian or Jewish and thinks he has a friend that is Islamic is seriously mistaken. Should that “friend” be forced to chose between you and Islam a true Islamic believer will always chose Islam. |

2986 | Spirit of the Lord Go to white house | Revelation | EdB | 16295
We need to be reading our Bibles. Nothing is going to bring this world into one union for the Glory of God until Christ returns. Until then we can expect tragedies like this and worst. As the time of Christ’s return approaches this world is going to become a terrible place to live and if we are not firmly rooted in our faith in God we will be tossed and shaken. I will agree with your prayer asking that the Holy Spirit fill the White House and lead our President in the decisions he must make in the days ahead. Come quickly Lord Jesus! |

2987 | difference between the occult and a cult | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 16240
A cult is a counterfeit of an orthodox religion, usually Christianity. It is based around an incorrect teaching, or a specific person. It is any religious group that follows a significant deviation of what is considered normal expressions of religion within our culture. The Occult deals with mysticism, Satanism, witchcraft, black magic and wicca. Any worship or dealing with a spiritual being/force other than God or one having been sent by God (angel). |

2988 | Contrast Islam with Christianity | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 16238
To get a real good understanding of the differences get the book "Cults, World Religions and the Occult" by Kenneth Boa published by Victor Books, ISBN 0-89693-823-9. within it you a complete discussion on the differences and he book has an easy to follow table in the back summarizing these differences.
2989 | What does revelation say about towers | Revelation | EdB | 16044
nolesurfer9 I began to give you a silly answer using a made up formula and counting letters and all that junk. But the Holy Spirit checked me and pointed out the tragedy was too serious to give foolish answers. To answer your question NO. Nowhere in the Bible does it mention Twin Towers or make any reference to planes. However we are warned many times in the Bible that in the end times, the time leading up to Jesus’ return, we would see wars and rumors of wars, we would see men become lovers of themselves, people would become cold and callous and life would be thought little of. While everyone was surprised and outraged by this horrendous event, no Christian should be surprised by it’s nature since the Bible clearly tells us this and even worst heinous acts of man against man are to be expected. Truly our redemption draws nigh, for those that don't depend on Jesus for salvation this world is going to become a very scary place to be. |

2991 | So ALL who believe in Christ are saved? | Matt 10:33 | EdB | 15790
Bill Mc I think you asked an interesting question, one that those of the “cheap grace” community stumble on. They claim if you believe in Jesus you are saved you need nothing else. However James 2:19 “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble!”, tells us even the demons believe. So there must be something else required. Jesus said in John 15:14 “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.” We must obey him to be saved. Peter when asked in Acts Acts 2:37-38 “Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" 38Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Told them they must repent and be baptized. However John 3:16 says all we need is to believe. It seems we have a contradiction. However if we look at the word believe used in John 3:16 we see if means far more than the word "believe" we use everyday. This word believe means to become dependant, willing to stake your life on it, to live your life in such a manner that shows your belief. To do that you could not deny Christ anymore than you could disobey one of Jesus’ commands. There are many people that believe in Christ, that do not depend on him for their salvation nor hold his teachings. As to the question of Peter quite honestly God never gave me the position to judge another of his slaves and until he does I'll let Peter worry about Peter. |

2992 | May I share a simple story to help? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 15132
Dear Sir Pent, What an excellent story, how convicting!! You hit the nail on the head showing in many cases, people follow God's will because it does not conflict with their own. However should a situation arise where there is conflict then they tend to go their own way. Excellent story!!!! Thank you for sharing it! I hope everyone on the forum reads it, I think it is that good. Not to minimize you in any way did you conceive of this yourself or did you get it somewhere? I would love to use it as an example in a class. I would like to give credit where credit is due. Thanks again for your great response. Would you consider changing your id? :-) I hate snakes! |

2993 | Order of events at the 2nd Coming? | 1 Thess 4:17 | EdB | 14837
Nolan Having studied eschatology for some time, what your asking could and probably would embark us on another Calvinism/Arminianism type debate. The exact sequence of events are at the heart of the pre, mid, and post tribulation debate. Along with the rapture debate. Even Edward Reese avoided any debate on this when he wrote the Reese Chronological Bible, keeping the Book of Revelation in sequence and located at the end. As far as outstanding prophecy most if not all reliable scholars agree Jesus could return or the rapture could occur at any moment and nothing would be compromised or violated. I believe we are poised at the very doorway and wait longingly for a trumpet blast and a command. However until we hear that call we are instructed to keep on keeping on. |

2994 | What do YOU think, fellow Berian? | 1 Thess 5:23 | EdB | 14331
Bill, Your looking to get hung! For some reason which I do not totally understand if someone quotes an “expert” you are to take it as gospel even if the person quoting knows full well other “experts” disagree with that stated position. If you question the expert you are then characterized as being anything from prideful to mocking education. |

2995 | Answer the Question | OT general | EdB | 14325
DIM, what your asking is quite a job and something not easily answered here. There is a new book brought out by Abingdon Press titled ‘Handbook of Denominations in the United States’ the 11 th edition. ISBN number 0-687-06983-1. It is approximately 396 pages in length and details each denomination first by grouping Adventist, Baptist, Brethren, Catholic, Christian Churches and etc. Then it breaks down any outstanding characteristics for individual denominations with in each group such as American Baptist, General Baptist, Missionary Baptist, National Baptists, Primitive Baptist, Southern Baptist and etc. I think what you will find is the biggest difference is government types, Congregational, Presbyter, and etc. The next biggest difference is methodology of church ordinances, such as methods of baptism, gifts of the spirit, communion, clergy requirements, etc. The last and probably the hardest to understand is denominational splits that occurred over leadership and political power struggles. Get the book you will find all the information you need in a quick yet complete reference source. Sorry I do not have the time or desire to input the a thumbnail of the differences for you. |

2997 | How do I unite my class? | Phil 2:2 | EdB | 13896
Have you tried talking about what is causing the dis-unity? So many times we try to solve church problems by “not talking about them”. I’m not suggesting you gossip or have a complaint session and certainly not a roast the pastor meeting. But airing the problems, then deciding what can be done by the group to pull the church back in unity may help. If the problems are unsolvable or un-addressable by your group at the very least you would get ideas for prayer. Your group could then come together to pray that God will intervene. If the problem is to volatile to discuss I would then have the group come together to pray for a resolution. It is hard to be divided when everyone is on their knees praying. I pray this will give you some ideas. Ed |

2998 | Who created god? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 13895
Since the Bible tells us God always was, the answer would have to be God wasn't created but always existed. You philosophized by asking how does something just get there? The answer to that would have to be a rhetorical, isn’t God just Awesome? Shelah!(Think about that) |

2999 | May we return to the original question? | Deut 29:29 | EdB | 13807
Doesn't Deuteronomy 29:29 which you assigned to your question pretty much sum up the solution or answer to your question? God hasn't revealed to us why He did what He did. To offer speculation would put us into opposition of the truth contained in Deut 29:29. The answer does not belong to us.
3000 | in the spirit | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 13805
Maybe we are living in a dimension and when we die we step from this dimension to the next and to the next and God is the ruler of the dimensions. Or maybe we are in a time warp and on death the warp window opens and we step to a new time zone. Maybe we are a universe contained in a speck of dust lying on the sleeve a man that is part of universe contained in a speck of dust on the sleeve of another man… You have got to quit smoking that stuff! It isn’t good for your brain. God is God, we have a choice follow God and his teachings, accepting Jesus His Son as our Lord and savior, relying only on His grace for our salvation and His promise to be with Him for eternity or cook up some half bake ideas, lose fellowship with God our Father, deny Christ and be lost for eternity. Stop philosophizing and decide now to follow God. You won’t have all the answers but you will have the answers to the important questions. |
