Shalom y'all Thanks everybody. I just couldn't think of anything else but Psa. 24 when I read those words from the "Crucifixion." Azure, I'll check our library and see if they have a copy of the "Crucifixion" on CD or DVD. :-) Cheri |

127 | How has Judaism influenced Christianity? | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 201457
Shalom Patty, Welcome to the Forum. Well, let's get things rolling here ... You speak of 'christianity" as something apart from Judaism - it was never intended to be. (The term christian is used in the book of Acts - christianity is never used in the Bible.) Messiah was the promised King of the Jews, He was born King of the Jews, He was crucified and died and risen as the King of the Jews, and He will return as the King of the Jews, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. He will set His throne in Zion. See Rom. chapter 11, just to start. Cheri |

128 | Help for discouraged parents? | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 201459
Mike, Shalom I must second John's encouragement. I haven't responded to your request because I can only tell of my own experience (which John is aware of). If you would like to email me (in my profile) I'd be willing to share my dilemma regarding my young'un with you, and how I've learned to handle it - it might help, maybe it won't - it does come from the Bible and involves something to do with the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. 129 | How has Judaism influenced Christianity? | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 201461
Patty, shalom again Aaaah, OK. I understand. Sadly, not much of anything of the Jews is incorporated into the westernized churches nowadays. We are the ones on the losing end though, after all, we have been adopted into a Jewish family - our King and big Brother is a Jew for all Jews (even if they didn't see it). In this world my birth parents gave me up for adoption. When I was adopted, I did not retain my birth identity - I melded into my new family, learning their ways till after awhile no one could tell that I was adopted and not a natural member. As a believer, adopted into God's family and into the commonwealth of Israel, I don't see that it should be any different. Maybe someone else can see more, but I see very little of Judaism except for the Lord Himself. But there is a group of really strange folks who are returning to the Jewishness of Jesus (I'm one of them), you can google Messianic Judaism and see what is and is not being incorporated, if you want to go that route in your essay. Sorry, I couldn't help more. Cheri |

Shalom Someothername, You're welcome. I've come to love the language and am trying to learn it - got the reading it down but my vocabulary is still very scant. Oh well, in time. Another nice link for the Hebrew language is Hebrew4Christians. Learning the stories of the Hebrew letters and numbers can be fun as long as we remember they are just "stories and legends" and we don't put much stock into them. (I personally enjoy those stories because they show such a gentleness of heart, and a kind spirit in the ancient peoples.) Cheri |

shalom cockroach, Is the below what you're looking for? It's all I could find - maybe someone else will have a better search :-) Deu 32:2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distill as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: Cheri |

137 | therefore the lord blessed the sabbath | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 202150
Shalom tenderheart Welcome to the Forum. Don't be confused. If you can find a scripture that says "Observe My Sunday" then by all means, do so. Meanwhile, you have found a scripture (there are actually dozens) that say "Observe My Sabbath." Reading through the four Gospels, you'll find Jesus observing Shabbat/Sabbath; throughout the Book of Acts, it is the Sabbath that is observed. It was a man who chose to change it from the God-ordaind Sabbath to Sunday. Josh. 24:14-15. "...as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." There is great joy in obeying God's commands. Cheri |

138 | How do I forgive adultry if it continues | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 202163
Dear TJS, May I interject something here? YOU cannot forgive your ex-wife's sin. Only God can do that. What takes place concerning this act is between her and Him. What you are required to do is forgive her for how her sin affected you - and you do this, not for her, not even for God. You do it to put yourself in right standing with God. If there is anger, hurt, resentment over this in you then that affects your standing before God - you are out of balance. Place all of that (including the situation with your son) at the foot of the Cross and leave it there. When you begin thinking about it, start singing or humming What a Friend or Amazing Grace, anything to keep you from taking it back. YOu gave it to God, it's His now. God is faithful to heal your wounds if you allow Him to do so. (Please, be assured I'm not just rambling about something I know nothing about. My teenage daughter absolutely hates me and I've no idea why - and it hurts something awful, it's debilitating, it's crippling - if I take it back. But I've learned that only God can change hearts, we cannot. In His time, she will forgive and I will be there.) And in His time, your son will "come to his senses" and you will be there (either in this life or in the world to come). Please, be sure to follow the advice of brothers Brad and Hank and all the others, and seek Godly counsel. A counsellor can help you work through all of this. Leaning how to separate yourself from the hurt they have caused you and yet still think of them lovingly and pray for them is very difficult; but it can and must be done. Seek professional help from a Godly person. I'm sure you are already in the prayers of the many SBFers that have been reading this thread. May you find God's shalom. Cheri |

139 | ten commandments are they valid today | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 202168
Shalom tenderheart, 1 - Deu 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. Deu 12:32 (13:1) All this word which I command you, that shall ye observe to do; thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it. Rev 22:18 I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto them, God shall add unto him the plagues which are written in this book: 2 - Mat 5:17 Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil. Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished. Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. The Torah is alive and well in 2008!! Deu 30:8 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of Jehovah, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day. Deu 30:9 And Jehovah thy God will make thee plenteous in all the work of thy hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, for good: for Jehovah will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers; Deu 30:10 if thou shalt obey the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law; if thou turn unto Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul. Deu 30:11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not too hard for thee, neither is it far off. Deu 30:12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it? Deu 30:13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it? Deu 30:14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it. Deu 30:15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; Deu 30:16 in that I command thee this day to love Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, that thou mayest live and multiply, and that Jehovah thy God may bless thee in the land whither thou goest in to possess it. Deu 30:17 But if thy heart turn away, and thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; Deu 30:18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish; ye shall not prolong your days in the land, whither thou passest over the Jordan to go in to possess it. Deu 30:19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before thee life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life, that thou mayest live, thou and thy seed; Deu 30:20 to love Jehovah thy God, to obey his voice, and to cleave unto him; for he is thy life, and the length of thy days; that thou mayest dwell in the land which Jehovah sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them. I have sat and listened to a Lutheran, a Methodist, a Baptist, a Church of God, and a non-denominational pastor preach a sermon on the above passages. We christians love the promises of God but we sure do get squirmy when it comes to hearing what He expects His people to look and act like. Hope this helped :-) Cheri |

140 | ten commandments are they valid today | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 202174
Hiya Doc, Sorry that you misunderstood me, but glad you brought to my attention that my wording wasn't great :-) It wasn't the sermons at all, those were happy sermons. I was trying to say that we get "squirmy" when a someone actually does attempt to instruct us about the consequences of disobedience. So they preach on the "good" "happy" Old Testament scriptures "...blessing coming in and blessing going out...", "...you'll be the head and not the tail...", etc. But I very rarely got any of the "fire and brimstone" type sermons that addresses disobedience and its results. I guess it kind of goes back to the other thread that's running right now about churches being more entertaining than instructional. I'm a product of those kinds of churches years back, and it actually came as quite a surprise to me (a few years ago) when it became clear to me that the God of the ancients is the very same God we worship today. He has not changed - going from angry and hard to benevolant and good - He's been all of those all along - depending on how we as individuals and nations approach Him. I hope I cleared that up a bit :-) Cheri |
