Subject: ten commandments are they valid today |
Bible Note: Hiya Doc, Sorry that you misunderstood me, but glad you brought to my attention that my wording wasn't great :-) It wasn't the sermons at all, those were happy sermons. I was trying to say that we get "squirmy" when a someone actually does attempt to instruct us about the consequences of disobedience. So they preach on the "good" "happy" Old Testament scriptures "...blessing coming in and blessing going out...", "...you'll be the head and not the tail...", etc. But I very rarely got any of the "fire and brimstone" type sermons that addresses disobedience and its results. I guess it kind of goes back to the other thread that's running right now about churches being more entertaining than instructional. I'm a product of those kinds of churches years back, and it actually came as quite a surprise to me (a few years ago) when it became clear to me that the God of the ancients is the very same God we worship today. He has not changed - going from angry and hard to benevolant and good - He's been all of those all along - depending on how we as individuals and nations approach Him. I hope I cleared that up a bit :-) Cheri |
