121 | 1 John 5:16-17 | 1 John 5:16 | prazn | 86070
"Sin" is rebellion against God (or willful disobedience). Take Adam and Eve, for example. God gave them one commandment. But, they disobeyed and as a result of their sin, they lost the close fellowship with God that they once enjoyed (i.e., spiritual death). God is Spirit. Human beings can only communicate with God through our spirits, which are only made alive when we have received Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. Apparently, there are sins which result in "spiritual" death. If we continually neglect our relationship with our Lord (i.e., fail to regularly read His word and pray), "spiritual" death is a certainty. Also, if we fail to consistently confess our sins to the Lord, we cannot expect to maintain a healthy or close communion with the Lord. Hope this helps. |

122 | LET US HEED TO THE CALL | Matt 22:14 | prazn | 86055
What has been revealed to me about Matt 22:14 is that many are called to salvation, but few are chosen to follow our Lord (forsaking the way of the world, and even our own lives, for the sake of furthering the gospel of Jesus Christ). Notice that throughout the New Testament, the Lord saved those (the many) who professed their belief in Him. However, the Lord only chose the original 12 disciples (or apostles) to forsake their lives and follow Him. And, of the 12, only 3 (Peter, James and John) were permitted deeper revelation knowledge of the person of Christ. Were the multitude of people whom the Lord granted spiritual healing and restoration any less saved than the apostles? No. We'll see them in heaven right along with the apostles and the rest who are chosen to follow our Lord and to serve Him. Stay blessed! |

123 | The Ultimate Bible Resource | John 16:13 | prazn | 86049
Bible commentaries and study notes are good, but we must know the Word of God for ourselves. 2 Thess 2:1-12, warns us that many will be deceived in this final day because they have not known the Truth for themselves. It is not enough to rely upon the opinions of, or revelations provided to, other believers. The absolute authority on the meaning of the Bible is the Holy Spirit who is within you, if you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ: John 16:13 "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. John 16:14 "He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. John 16:15 "All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you." 1 Cor 2:10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 1 Cor 2:11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 1 Cor 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 1 Cor 2:13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by HUMAN WISDOM, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. God bless you! |

A NOTE OF ENCOURAGEMENT: Matt 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Matt 7:8 "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." It is troubling to see questions left unanswered for days, in this forum. There are so many resources available to believers with a sincere desire to read and understand the word of God. Please don't limit yourself to this forum. If you don't get a satisfactory answer in this forum, "keep knocking". Check out the many other resources that are available to you, maybe even in your own home. Our Lord is faithful. 126 | Must Christians keep the Sabbath today? | Ex 20:8 | prazn | 86045
JESUS is our Sabbath: Heb 4:1 Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. Heb 4:2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. Heb 4:3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, "AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST," although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. Heb 4:4 For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: "AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS"; Heb 4:5 and again in this passage, "THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST." Heb 4:6 Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, Heb 4:7 He again fixes a certain day, "Today," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS." Heb 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. Heb 4:9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. Heb 4:10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Heb 4:11 Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience. Jesus says, Matt 11:28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I WILL GIVE YOU REST. Matt 11:29 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. Matt 11:30 "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." |

127 | Friends smoking cigars, bad or not? | Rom 14:21 | prazn | 86044
Good morning, Extol_Him! The following Scripture may shed some light on your situation: Rom 14:1 Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. Rom 14:2 One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. Rom 14:3 The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. Rom 14:4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. Rom 14:5 One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. Rom 14:6 He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God. Rom 14:7 For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself; Rom 14:8 for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. Rom 14:9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. Rom 14:10 But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. Rom 14:11 For it is written, "AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME, AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD." Rom 14:12 So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God. Rom 14:13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this--not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way. Rom 14:14 I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. Rom 14:15 For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died. Rom 14:16 Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil; Rom 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Rom 14:18 For he who in this way serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. Rom 14:19 So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another. Rom 14:20 Do not tear down the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are clean, but they are evil for the man who eats and gives offense. Rom 14:21 It is good not to eat meat or to drink wine, or to do anything by which your brother stumbles. Rom 14:22 The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. Rom 14:23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin. Hope this helps. |

128 | How come he couln't go back? | Mark 8:26 | prazn | 85990
Well, my friend, the Lord obviously wanted your question answered. The following is excerpted from a book entitled, Adventuring Through the Bible: Matthew, Mark and Luke, by Ray C. Stedman. "Mark 8:22-26 goes on to record a very significant act of our Lord: Mark 8:22 And they *came to Bethsaida. And they *brought a blind man to Jesus and *implored Him to touch him. Mark 8:23 Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, "Do you see anything?" Mark 8:24 And he looked up and said, "I see men, for I see them like trees, walking around." Mark 8:25 Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly. Mark 8:26 And He sent him to his home, saying, "Do not even enter the village." Notice the the setting of this story--the village of Bethsaida. Matthew describes Bethsaida as one of those cities Jesus had pronounced judgement upon, saying, Matt 11:21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Here is a city that has rejected our Lord's ministry and His person, and He will not allow any further testimony to go on in that city. He led the blind man out before He healed him. This is the only case where our Lord did not see an instantaneous, complete healing take place the first time He spoke. When the healing was complete, He would not even allow the healed man to go back into the village, for Bethsaida was a village under God's judgement for having rejected the ministry of the Servant of God." Wonder of wonders, I received this "Complimentary Study Resource" in the mail, several minutes ago. The book is published by RBC Ministries and can be ordered online at www.dhp.org/adventuring. After this happened, I could not help but to break into a chorus of "How Great Thou Art!" Stay blessed, dear one! |

135 | understanding Genesis | Genesis | prazn | 85916
Please consider asking your Pastor, or other Christian leader, about participating in a Bible study at your local church. If this is not possible. There are numerous Bible studies that you can purchase that will help you to dig into the Word of God. Ask someone at your local Christian bookstore to recommend a good Bible study workbook that will help you to study the book of Genesis, on your own. Or, if you don't have a Christian bookstore in your town, check out these sites for good Bible studies: Navpress.com, backtothebible.org, or rbc.org (many of their Bible studies are free), to mention a few. May I recommend two excellent Bible studies which focus on the patriarchs of the faith, mentioned in Genesis. One workbook is entitled, Following God: Life Principles from the Old Testament. The workbook is authored by Wayne Barber. If you can't find it at your local Christian bookstore, you may want to consider ordering it online at www.ChristianBooks.com. Another excellent Bible study workbook is entitled, Created to be God's Friend. It is written by Henry T. Blackaby. This workbook focuses on Abraham and helps you to understand how God works in the lives of His people. Both workbooks may help to get you started in learning how to study and apply God's word to your life. Hope this helps... God bless you. |

136 | Parallels? | Ps 119:1 | prazn | 85879
Thanks for the encouragement, Popdzl. It is not possible to follow Christ (the Word made flesh) and not study the Bible, because Jesus says: John 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:8 "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. John 15:9 "Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. John 15:10 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. Stay blessed! |

137 | Isaiah 9:6 | Is 9:6 | prazn | 85869
According to the Brown-Driver-Brigg's Hebrew Lexicon, the Word "Father" in the Hebrew means "Originator" or "Producer". However the key word to focus on in the text is "Everlasting". "Everlasting", in the Hebrew, means "eternal" Isaiah referred to Jesus as "The Everlasting Father". Meaning, He has always been our Father and will always be our Father. Jesus said,"I and the Father are one." John 10:30 Jesus also said, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father" John 14:9 |

Actually, God's word says that there should not be many teachers (I presume that this means of either gender): "Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment." James 3:1 The only One who can correctly teach a born-again believer is the Holy Spirit: "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you."
