NASB | 1 John 5:16 ¶ If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 5:16 ¶ If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, he will pray and ask [on the believer's behalf] and God will for him give life to those whose sin is not leading to death. There is a sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for this [kind of sin]. |
Bible Question: What in the world does this mean!? It is not a contradiction?!???? How does this fit |
Bible Answer: "Sin" is rebellion against God (or willful disobedience). Take Adam and Eve, for example. God gave them one commandment. But, they disobeyed and as a result of their sin, they lost the close fellowship with God that they once enjoyed (i.e., spiritual death). God is Spirit. Human beings can only communicate with God through our spirits, which are only made alive when we have received Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. Apparently, there are sins which result in "spiritual" death. If we continually neglect our relationship with our Lord (i.e., fail to regularly read His word and pray), "spiritual" death is a certainty. Also, if we fail to consistently confess our sins to the Lord, we cannot expect to maintain a healthy or close communion with the Lord. Hope this helps. |
