121 | do u tithe on unemployment checks | 1 Tim 1:8 | Searcher56 | 220643
Scripture ... Gen 14:20, 28:22; Exo 23:16-19, Lev 27:20; Num 18:12-26; Deu 12:6-19, 14:22-29, 26:12-15; 2 Cor 9:7; Heb 7:6 ... God's day to you, Brad, This is a repost ... The tithe is gross, based on Firstfruits (Exo 23:16-19). There were three tithes While a "tithe" means 10 percent, there were three tithes given: 1) the general tithe paid to the Levites (Lev 27:20, Num 18:21), who in turn to the preists (vs 26). 2) the sacred meal tithe (Deu 12:6-7,17-19, 14:22-27) which was brought yearly to the tabernacle and eaten before the Lord. 3) The tri-annual tithe to the poor (Deu 14:28-29, 26:12-15) So that was 19 percent per year and 27 percent every three years, average 22 percent. Some more information on tithing, I had in my old post. Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek (Gen. 14:20; Heb. 7:6); and Jacob vowed unto the Lord to give a tenth (Gen. 28:22). These were given before the Law. In the NT, do not count all your seeds to make sure you give a tenth of all and neglect something greater - justice, mercy, and faith (Mat. 23:23). Does this passage say we should not tithe, or does it make a comparison? Some don't think we should have to pay even one tithe/tenth ... "Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Cor 9:7). Hopefully we give more than 10 percent. Searcher |

123 | What day are we COMMANDED to gather? | Heb 10:25 | Searcher56 | 220528
God's day to you, lightedsteps, Constantine only made Sunday the day of rest, not the day of "worship", in March 321 ... "On the venerable day of the Sun let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, and let all workshops be closed" (Codex Justinianus lib. 3, tit. 12, 3; trans. in Philip Schaff, History of the Christian Church, Vol. 3, p. 380, note 1). Socrates Scholasticus, a church historian of the fifth century A.D., wrote, "For although almost all churches throughout the world celebrate the sacred mysteries [the Lord's Supper] on the sabbath of every week, yet the Christians of Alexandria and at Rome, on account of some ancient tradition, have ceased to do this."[Ecclesiastical History, book 5, chap. 22, in The Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers (NPNF) Second Series, Vol. II, p. 132.] The early church did not just gather together on Sunday ... or the Sabbath. We may not say one is right or wrong. Sozomen wrote, "The people of Constantinople, and almost everywhere, assemble together on the Sabbath, as well as on the first day of the week, which custom is never observed at Rome or at Alexandria."[ Ecclesiastical History, book 7, chap. 19, in NPNF, Second Series, Vol. II, p. 390.] Searcher |

124 | how public should i be in the church? | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 220516
God's day to you, vnct blzn, You are obligated to follow the law of the land, you are subject to their authority (Rom 13:1ff). If you take a stand like 2Peter and the other apostles did in Acts 5:29, "We must obey God rather than men!" ... you need to be sure. Some court records are public others are not. Searcher |

God's day to you, Randy, okaeri nasai (welcome back), I agree we should gather and know the verses you cited. The counter is in Acts Paul met on the Sabbath (13:14,27,42,44, 15:21, 16:13, 17:2, 18:4). There are places where Christians can gather - but it must be Friday ... Saturday for some. Steve |

127 | help me understand Gods harsh punishment | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 220317
God's day to you, yburnette, and welcome to the SBF, It is not harsh, God demands perfection. I think of this of being perfect, that is obeying God always, except for one time. That one sin would keep us out of Heaven. Moses disobeyed, this once, at least ... so he didn't get to enter the Promised Land. All the others did sin more, but God doesn't grade on a curve. God demands perfection. Joshua and Caleb were exceptions. Searcher |

I have read the Galilean (some say Essenes) worshippers had their lamb killed on one day before, their Judean brothers. One used the old way of dating (starting from morning and going to the following morning. The rest followed the official dating method (from evening to evening). Thus, it may be possible there were two times when lambs were being killed in the Temple for sacrifice.

God's day to you, dodoy, I believe John 12:9 is 5 days before the Passover. The "On the next day" of John 12:12 would be 4 days before the Passover (Nisan 10). That is Lamb Selection Day (Exo 12:2). Searcher |

Correction ... John 12:9 should be 'On the next day, "the great multitude therefore of the Jews learned that He was there (in Bethany); and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead." While it was a Sabbath, people still could travel.' Nisan 08 (Thu/Fri) - "Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany" (John 12:1). Thu Nisan 09 (Fri/Sat) - The next day crowds came (John 12:9). Sabbath Nisan 10 (Sat/Sun) - "On the next day" (John 12:12-13). Lamb Selection Day. Jesus presented self in Temple Nisan 11 (Sun/Mon) -"The next day" (Mark 11:12). Sun Nisan 12 (Mon/Tue) - "in the morning" (Mark 11:20). Nisan 13 (Tue eve) - "Now the Passover and Unleavened Bread were two days away" (Mark 14:1). Nisan 13 (Wed day) - "Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread" (Luke 22:7). Nisan 14 (Wed eve) - "When evening came" (Mark 14:17). Nisan 14 (Thu day) - "Very early in the morning" (Mark 15:1). … "It was the third hour when they crucified Him" (Mark 15:25). 25 |

God's day to you, dodoy, How could He have died on Wednesday Saturday would be the first day since Sunday Friday would be the second day since Sunday Thursday would be the third day since Sunday Three days and three days from Thurday - Day 1 Thursday day (6am-6pm) - Nite1 Thursday nite (6am-6pm) - Day 2 Friday day (6am-6pm) - Nite2 Friday nite (6am-6pm) - Day 3 Saturday day (6am-6pm) - Nite3 Saturday nite (6am-6pm) I don't know how Wednesady can fit ... He would have to enter Jerusalem on the Sabbath, and the activites by the people also violated the Sabbath (Matt 21:1-17, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-46, John 12:12-18). The Jewish leaders would scold Him again if He violated the Sabbath. Read post 146178 for more. It is impossible for Christ to enter Jerusalem on Sunday and die on Wednesday. Searcher |

God's day to you, Val, How do you answer ... 'Samuel said to Saul "tomorrow you and your sons will be WITH me"' (1Sa 28:19). It doesn't matter which side of the gulf ... I see the "with" and "I will go to him" (2Sa 12:23), as meaning death. Searcher |

Scripture ... "and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him. But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the THIRD day since these things happened" (Luke 24:20-21) ... God's day to you, dodoy, and welcome to the SBF, If He died on Wednesday, explain Luke 24:20-21. Also explain why there was clear violation of the Sabbath ... I think I have Saturday correct. "Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany" (John 12:1). Thu "On the next day" (John 12:9). Fri "On the next day" (John 12:12-13). Sat (Matt. 21:1-17, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-46, John 12:12-18) "The next day" (Mark 11:12). God's day to you, Doc, David's statement about his baby dieing DOES NOT prove infant salvation. Read my post 138120. I even have added another verse (1Sa 11:23), to show David wasn't talking about his thinking his baby was saved. Bottom line - I took another view on infant motality. I don't know what God does. No one does. We know what He does about those who never heard and even are good people (Rom 1:17ff), so I am hard pressed to think He saves babies and not these, I think they could be "innocent". God's day to you, Val, David said, "But now he has died; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me" (2Sa 12:23). That doesn't mean that David thought he would see him in heaven or Abraham's bosom (Luk 16:22). I believe David is saying that he would join him is death, as Samuel said to Saul (1Sa 11:23). For more on my view of the unborn and babies who die do to post 138120. Searcher |

God's day yo you, John, English confuses the Greek.
