185 | Tithing before Mosaic Law | Gen 14:20 | Searcher56 | 217749
God's day to you, Azure, I believe you may be correct ... Jacob even used the word "if" in verse 20. His vow was condidtional. Jacob, the schemer, was schemed by his uncle in the next chapters. After his return (33:18), he didn't return to Bethel, until God told him (35:1) ... did Jacob fulfill his vow? Searcher |

186 | Tithing before Mosaic Law | Gen 14:20 | Searcher56 | 217729
Scripture ... Gen 14:20, 28:22; Exo 23:16-19, Lev 27:20; Num 18:12-26; Deu 12:6-19, 14:22-29, 26:12-15; 2 Cor 9:7; Heb 7:6 ... God's day to you, Sister Azure, This is a repost ... The tithe is gross, based on Firstfruits (Exo 23:16-19). There were three tithes While a "tithe" means 10 percent, there were three tithes given: 1) the general tithe paid to the Levites (Lev 27:20, Num 18:21), who in turn to the preists (vs 26). 2) the sacred meal tithe (Deu 12:6-7,17-19, 14:22-27) which was brought yearly to the tabernacle and eaten before the Lord. 3) The tri-annual tithe to the poor (Deu 14:28-29, 26:12-15) So that was 19 percent per year and 27 percent every three years, average 22 percent. Some more information on tithing, I had in my old post. Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek (Gen. 14:20; Heb. 7:6); and Jacob vowed unto the Lord to give a tenth (Gen. 28:22). These were given before the Law. In the NT, do not count all your seeds to make sure you give a tenth of all and neglect something greater - justice, mercy, and faith (Mat. 23:23). Does this passage say we should not tithe, or does it make a comparison? Some don't think we should have to pay even one tithe/tenth ... "Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Cor 9:7). Hopefully we give more than 10 percent. Searcher |

Mike, Mike, Mike ... even your own verses contrdict your statement contradicts your statement. Read what others have written, including me ... and prove you are right by the verses (read the context, of course) we cited. You may cite verses to make your case for almost anything. But, when you are challenged with other Scripture, you may need to rethink your ways ... unless you prove what we say is wrong. .. Searcher |

God's day to you, Mike, You are wrong not ALL suffering is evil and Satanic. All I need to do is to give you one verse ... "For to you it has been granted for Christ's sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake" (Php 1:29). But there are more ... "But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer" (2Co 1:6) Suffering and being honored is part of showing unity in the church (1Co 12:26). Paul was shown how much he must suffer for Christ's name's sake (Act 9:16). Romans 8:17 says "and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him." There are more, but I'll close with this thought Are you a soldier of the cross, Must you be carried to the skies on flowery beds of ease, while others fought to win the prize, and sailed through bloody seas? "Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus" (2Ti 2:3). Searcher |

January 8, 1956 is a day to remember in Christianity. Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Roger Youderian, Pete Fleming and Jim Elliot is the date these men died at the hands of the Huaorani. Their deaths position many of God's troops from the comfort of where they were to the world who needed to hear the Gospel. It impacted the movement of their family. In the fall of 1958, Elisabeth Elliot (Jim's wife) went to live with the Huaorani with their three year old daughter Valerie and Rachel Saint (Nate's sister) ... which eventually bore fruit. Rachel Saint died in Ecuador after spending 36 years with the Huaorani. Steve Saint, whose father was killed 22 days before his 5th birthday, started to live with the Huaorani the summer he was 10. He was baptized by two of his father's killers, who had become Christians, when he was 14, in the same river his father went to glory. He returned to Ecuador as a tour guide for awhile. In 1994, he returned to bury his Aunt Rachel. The Woadani asked for he and family to stay, which he did (1995-1996). He and wife have returned several times. Steve has done work with other indigenous tribes I have met Elisabeth and Steve. Their actions and that of Rachel show forgiveness and love. I attended chapel when I was in the military. The chaplain showed Though Gates of Splendor one evening. But only the first part. I said we must see the second reel… for it was the rest of the story. The deaths of these five weren’t the first to be killed in the jungles of South America. In 1944, Cecil Dye, Bob Dye, Dave Bacon, George Hosbach or Eldon Hunter were martyred in Bolivia. They didn’t receive much notice. Jim said, "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." Searcher |

God's day to you, CDBJ, Ratpak pointed out the second resurrection was 1000 years after the first (Rev 20:5-6), which is the point of this thread. Verse 4 gives the qualification of those who will part of first resurrection and reign with Him for those 1000 years. Many are mistaught on this. Searcher |

200 | Comments re: doing a 40 day Daniel Fast | Daniel | Searcher56 | 217356
Doc, A Daniel "Fast" (I say Diet) is based on Daniel 1:8-14, where he with Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah didn't eat the king's choice food or drink his wine ... but eat vegetables and drink water. The test was for 10 days. Since they passed, they continued with the fast aka diet. Zeroa is the Hebrew word for vegetables, which is from zara, which is anything sown. Today people eat veggies, fruit and grains. Sounds liek eating healthly. Some side notes ... not sure if they exactly apply. Zeroa or z'roa is a lamb shank bone used during the Passover sedar. It symbolizies the Pesach sacrifice of the lamb. Some used a roasted chicken wing. One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only (Rom 14:12). Searcher |
