3441 | Do We Worship On Our Knees Only? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 4944
I agree ... what David did may of been praise. We do need to behave and not cuase offense. It is a fine line. At times, I want to pray in Japanese, but refrain because it could make others think wrong thoughts. I let the Holy Spirit control mine. On the other hand, I think of Daniel 10:7ff, where there may of been worship ... but, the presence of God caused Daniel to faint and others to run away. |

3442 | Do We Worship On Our Knees Only? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 4939
That depends on your definition of both. I am not sure we do either. I see very few Christians get on their knees. I get on my knees for prayer, one of many positions for prayer. At that time, I am not in worship. The reason I say we do not praise much, is because of what I see on the faces. I am not judging, but wonder why there is so little joy when we praise God. When we praise someone else, we beam ... I am thinking of when I praise my daughter. But, God is our Father ... so why don't we beam when we praise Him? Steve |

3444 | Do We Worship On Our Knees Only? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 4927
Using English dictionaries is sometimes bad. We get our word worship from Middle English worshipe, which means worthiness, respect, reverence paid to a divine being. This word is from Old English, weorthscipe, which means worthiness, respect, from weorth worthy, worth -scipe -ship. There are some that say worship is showing God his worth. To be it sound to close to praise. You have got a good handle on the difference. Congrats to your daughter and praise to the Lord. I think of Hannah who worshiped after she was told she would be with child. There may of been praise as a related, but separate activity. Contrast Job who lost it all, and worshiped, as well as David, who lost his first son by Bathsheba. Worship does not always happen in conjuction with praise. |

The only reason I could think of is that he is retiring and does not want to move on. Howver, I see that as being dangerous. I think he should go to a church that he has never served. Yes, it would be tough in a small town.

- What words for worship did you study? I looked at them all, including Today's Engligh version. I came up with one word in each language, that should be worship. The primary Hebrew word, for "worship", shachah, is a powerful one. It describes the physical act of actually prostrating yourself on the floor before a sovereign, someone who has complete control over you. It is translated bow, homage, prostrate, worship, weighs it down or a similar words. Daniel wrote in Aramaic. The word he used, 12 times, is c@gid, pronounces segeed. It is translated to prostrate one-self, do homage, worship. It is related to the Hebrew cagad The primary Greek word is proskuneo. It means to kiss the hand to (towards) one, in token of reverence. Westerns may not understand this. It is not a romantic or family kiss. I doubt many of us kiss with reverence, even if we kiss the ring of the Pope. There were ancients that kissed their idols. - What translations are in error? I think they all add, or take away from these words. They are nor consistent in their translation. I used the NASB because I thought it was good and the tools I had. - What teachings have you heard that were in error? I saw only 2 of the over 200 teaching to be correct. Again, they added or took away from what I see the Bible says to be worship. Steve |
