101 | are we allowed to eat meat or not. | Matt 5:17 | glory777 | 68323
celestine6869 If you read Leviticus, you will find all kinds of laws that applied to everything that a Jew would do in his life and in the way he worshipped God. When Jesus came, He fulfilled all the laws so we wouldn't have to. He gave us freedom. When they followed a written code of laws, it kept them separated from the pagans surrounding them. When we follow the Holy Spirit's leading, we are shown as a separate people to those unbelievers around us. Deb |

102 | holding the light with dirty hands? | Matt 5:20 | glory777 | 15073
Was it their rightiousness? Or was it that they were in the right place at the right time and were alert, watching? Granted, they were watching their sheep, but in the night, the others were in bed. I think that the angels were just so filled with awe at what the Lord was doing that they couldn't help but praise Him and the shepherds were the ones that were there. But it was fitting, for the Lord Jesus didn't come to the world for the "righteous" but for those who were outcasts and unlovable and untaught. I believe the shepherds were not one of the acceptable class of people, so who else were more fitting to tell of the saving grace of God? Now a question for you. Who is HaShem? God's blessings upon you. Debbie |

104 | Did you forgive the Tuesday terrorists? | Matt 6:14 | glory777 | 16375
Steve- God may love them, but I don't. I love the families of those who are mourning their loss. I love the firemen and policemen who are risking their lives for any victims that may still be alive, even though the odds are getting slimmer and slimmer. I will pray for them that they see before too late that Jesus is Lord and will accept Him as such, but I cannot love them. Until those that are murderers and worse are not covered by the blood of Jesus, God sees their sins, and, I don't believe, is too pleased with them, either. He may love them and mourn over them, but He will not tolerate sin, which is what Jesus' sacrifice was about. I want to see the ones who did this executed so they will not do this to any others. I want the ones who were behind the ones who did this executed so they can not sponsor any more of this terrorism. If old women could join the armed forces, I would volunteer, because I have nothing to lose and everything to gain, and in the process, could leave this world in a better situation. No scripture, no quotes, but the history of these terrorists shows there is no remorse and, they know just what they are doing. Debbie |

105 | Are we forgiven? Does anyone know? | Matt 6:15 | glory777 | 15212
BillMc- But then you have the episode where Jesus is washing Peter's feet and tells him in essence, that, although he has salvation, he does need a foot washing every so often. And what about the verse that if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins? I think what you are talking about is that yes, we are saved, but we need the confession and asking God to forgive us, thanking Him for His forgiveness and knowing that He died for the sin we committed and so we WERE forgiven. However, if we don't confess our sin, we have broken fellowship with Him. Our forgiveness is waiting, but if we don't acknowledge that we need it and have it, we don't get it, our fellowship remains broken. Debbie |

106 | Spirtual Gifts | Matt 7:13 | glory777 | 8636
ezekiel- Yes, the Spiritual gifts are still in operation. They were in the past (just search for the word prophesy and you get so many references to so many people who were given the gift) and are even more today. In Acts, you see tongues as an outward sign of the inward conversion in many cases. I believe every believer has the potential for any or all of the gifts. We know that God never changes; what He did, He does and will continue to do. Now this is just my thought, but I think when God does do something for His people, He never does less for each succeeding generation, but He builds on what He has already done. Going from glory to glory, in my mind. There are times when I am in worship, or just praying that I feel that human words can't express what I want to convey to Him. That is when tongues come into play. Also, there are times when I just feel the need to speak in tongues, privately, and I feel that is a need for someone that I know nothing about but the Lord does. No matter, the spiritual gifts are important but seeking after the Lord and learning to do all things in love is more important. |

107 | Conversion or tolerance? | Matt 10:16 | glory777 | 65854
I think it is for anyone who has a heart for doing what Jesus commanded, especially for those going into lands where the persecution is severe. The disciples at that time (and many today) are going where they would be putting their lives on the line. However, Jesus said in Matt. 28:19-20 we are to make disciples. Religious freedom is a term used today to be politically correct and insulate ourselves from what Jesus wants us to do. No, we should not persecute those who believe different than we do, but we do have an obligation to show them the love of Christ and Christ working in us. It is ultimately not up to you to convert them, it is the work of the Holy Spirit but it is up to you to tell them of the Hope that is in you and leave the choice to them. How will they know if they don't hear the Truth? I have found an "in your face" approach doesn't often work. I have heard the saying "preach the gospel, if neccessary - use words". Your example, your attitude, what you surround yourself with (music, entertainment, etc.), the attitude you have will often cause questions. A perfect opportunity for sharing what Jesus has done for you. But do nothing without prayer and ask for the HOly Spirit's guidance. And above all PRAY for those friends of yours. Remember, you may not be the one to see the fruit of what you are doing. You may just be planting the seed that someone else will water before faith springs to life. But don't give up. May God increase your zeal for working for Him. May He bless you and give you opportunities to send forth His word. May He give you boldness and an even greater love for Him, in Jesus' precious name. 108 | Not Peace, But A Sword? | Matt 10:34 | glory777 | 11131
You are looking at two different kinds of peace. God's peace and man's peace. Even in turmoil, you can have God's peace, trusting in Him and knowing that there is no hurt you have that Jesus didn't have and doesn't share in. He is our strength and peace. But putting your faith and belief in Him will cause rejection, resentment, and persecution even within families. This is the sword spoken of and relates to the peace of man. The Lord's peace will never leave you.
109 | how do you exersise this violent force | Matt 11:12 | glory777 | 9602
Johngo- In the notes in the Spirit filled Life bible it states "the idea in this verse is that the kingdom of heaven, which Jesus set up as a powerful movement or reign among men (suffers violence), requires of them an equally strong and radical reaction. The violent then who take it by force are people of keen enthusiasm and commitment who are willing to respond to and propagate with radical abondonment the message and dynamic of God's reign." I think when John the Baptist began his ministry, it was like an alarm to Satan that his powerful reign was almost over and his territory was about to be torn from him. His warfare against God and men of God intensified. I think it is still going on now, and we have to be violent in return, putting on the "whole armour of God... and weilding the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God" (Eph. 6). Swords were used, not just for defense, but to attack. Use the Word to claim the Kingdom, use the Word to spread the Kingdom. Use the Word to grow in the Kingdom. Use the Word as Jesus did to keep Satan and his forces at bay. We all struggle, but since Jesus rose, we have His power and are stronger than the enemy. God bless and give you strength. Debbie |

110 | Can we Blow the whistle?! | Matt 14:1 | glory777 | 70564
mincc- I think we have an obligation to do so. But never accuse unless you have proof. Be prepared for fallout. John the baptizer pointed out wrong behavior and it cost him his head! Debbie |

111 | HOW DID THE WOMAN | Matt 15:21 | glory777 | 17133
dltlshines- I think because she pressed in. First she called out to Him - she a Gentile and He a Jew who was not supposed to associate with Gentiles. Even when He told her His mission was for the Jew first, she still did not give up but asked for whatever He could provide, not knowing that He would provide everything. Debbie |

112 | Why do some pastors disobey Jesus? | Matt 19:9 | glory777 | 19090
anjao- God instituted the joining of two persons, male and female with the intentions that they never be separated. Malachi states God hates divorce. At the time there were two groups of thought on the subject of divorce. One school of thought held that divorce could take place for any reason. Jesus stated which reason was an acceptable reason, not that if a person (husband or wife)is caught in infidelity that they should automatically divorce. If the marriage can be maintained, if forgiveness and a true state of repentance can be achieved, the marriage should be continued. Debbie |

113 | Discussion Question | Matt 19:24 | glory777 | 61489
Prayon - If it is a sin, there was an awful lot of it in the lives of the OT fathers! Abraham and David must have been great sinners. God wants us to have an abundant life and I believe that means material as well as spiritual abundance. But if that material abundance means more than the things of the Kingdom, than it is sin. To have money in the bank and to be a wise steward of it is not a problem (I wish I had more of the problem!) but if you prize it more than what it can do, it is a problem. Proverbs says we are to leave an inheritance to our grandchildren - prov. 13:22 - and that doesn't get there over night. Live simply? I would dearly love to have a swimming pool. To flaunt it? No - to be cool in the hot summer. I believe what you have can be sin if you have the wrong motive for it. Pride can ruin anything you have. Love you- Deb |

114 | Does this mean if someone accept Christ | Matt 25:46 | glory777 | 13877
Evette- Who, as a true believer of Christ, when seeing someone suffer and is able to give, doesn't? I think believing in Christ and His teachings mandates us to give to those less fortunate, and if you truly love the Lord, you will want to act as He would, which means giving. Those who can turn away would cause me to question the reliability of their born-again experience, thus their salvation. Hope this helps. Debbie |

115 | Did the Holy Spirit depart from Christ? | Matt 27:46 | glory777 | 18953
OK Bill- I'm sure I'm going to get slack for this answer, but I think the Holy Spirit did leave and that He did suffer spiritual death. All through scripture, Jesus called God the Father, "Father". It was only when He was on the cross, just before the payment of our sins was made in full that He cried out and called the Father "My God, My God, Why have You forsaken Me?" I really don't know about the Holy Spirit indwelling Jesus throughout His life. It's possible - He had an extraordinary amount of wisdom about the scriptures even at 12, but His Father announced His Sonship at His baptism and the Spirit descended on Him in the form of a dove. Had it been there before and this was only a way to physically show John the baptist? I don't know. Debbie |

116 | Are theregospels about Mary Magdeline? | Mark | glory777 | 17035

117 | that they may be one as we are one | Mark 10:18 | glory777 | 11154
Isa- Don't go far ahead in John 17. If you stop at John 17:5 you will see He was with God the Father from the beginning, before the world. I think that puts Him in the "God" category. In John 17:22 He is talking about His followers, then and now having spiritual unity. When Jesus is accepted as Lord and Saviour, we are born into the family of God. Even we in the forum have different viewpoints on ways of worship, but we love each other as brothers and sisters in Christ because we have His Spirit. |

118 | How to love neighbors we don't like | Mark 12:31 | glory777 | 97791
One sure fire way to at least "like" your enemies is to pray for them. Even people who annoy you. On my way to church this morning, there was a car ahead of me going about 50 miles an hour and I had no way to pass him. I was a little annoyed, to say the least. Then I remembered to pray for him. I asked God to bless him, to give him traveling mercies and to reveal Himself to the man, drawing him close to Him. By the time I finally got to where I could pass him, I could smile and bless him in truth. Now I wish I could remember to do that all the time! Also, if you know what causes that person to be so unlovable it would help. Is it because he/she is craving attention or has a "false front" because of great insecurity? There is usually a reason behind a persons unlovability and if you can look at it that way, you can feel compassion, prayer comes easy and it helps to ease the dislike. Ask for the heart of Jesus who loved all and died so all could come to Him if they choose. This person could be a brother/sister in Christ, if not now, in the future. God bless, Debbie |

119 | will god let angels heal? | Luke 1:13 | glory777 | 28092
ark- Not only are angels messengers, but they are warriors. An angel was sent to Daniel but said he had been delayed by the "kings of persia" until Michael came (Dan.10:13). They are also sent to protect people, but only work on God's command. They are worshippers of the Lord. Only God heals. God bless- Debbie |

120 | Should we call gov;t leaders' sin sin? | Luke 3:19 | glory777 | 15690
Welcome koinekid- I'm not positive on this, but I don't believe the general public had a voice in who led the government at that time. And yet, even then, Jesus gave us the words to give unto Caesar the things that are Caeser's and Paul restated that by telling us in Romans to pay taxes and obey the government (Roman 13:7). However, when the government gives us an order that is in direct opposition to what the Word of God tells us (Acts 5:27-29), we have a mandate to disobey. In our country, our government is chosen by the people. If after prayerful reveiw of the candidates and I believe seeing how their character and actions line up with God's Word, it is our responsibility to act with the freedom given to us and the wisdom given to us to vote for the one whom we believe will bring this country more in line with the guidelines God has set up. If an official is not doing what Jesus would do, we also are within our rights to tell it like it is. But we also have been told to pray for our leaders. God does appoint them,(I believe God put Clinton in office, just as much as Bush) and they will serve God's purpose for being there. Clinton's exploits caused this nation to ask itself "does character count?" and I don't know of an election where more people got down on their knees and prayed for God's will to be done. This past president caused people to eveluate where their allegiances are. And I would dare to say, no other president has had so many people praying for him to act in God's wisdom as G.W.Bush. This got a little off the subject, but I also look at John the Baptist who pointed out that one of the government officials (Luke 3:18)had acted immorally. Of course, he was also imprisoned for it and lost his head. It is a good thing that doesn't happen in this country, right? Debbie |
