Bible Question:
The bible has much to say on money and riches. My discussion question is this: Do you believe that it is a sin for Christians to have expensive things (cars, houses, jewelry, ect) and have an excess of money in the bank or do you believe that Christians are called to live a simple lifestyle? Do you feel that God would consider you greedy with an excess of money in the bank? prayon |
Bible Answer: Prayon - If it is a sin, there was an awful lot of it in the lives of the OT fathers! Abraham and David must have been great sinners. God wants us to have an abundant life and I believe that means material as well as spiritual abundance. But if that material abundance means more than the things of the Kingdom, than it is sin. To have money in the bank and to be a wise steward of it is not a problem (I wish I had more of the problem!) but if you prize it more than what it can do, it is a problem. Proverbs says we are to leave an inheritance to our grandchildren - prov. 13:22 - and that doesn't get there over night. Live simply? I would dearly love to have a swimming pool. To flaunt it? No - to be cool in the hot summer. I believe what you have can be sin if you have the wrong motive for it. Pride can ruin anything you have. Love you- Deb |
