Cheri, I have been praying for your request. I thought about answering your post and frankly did not know whether I should or not because more people see it if it is not answered and are reminded to pray when they log on. I thought that was the best decision to leave it as is. Since this is not a chat room, we are limited in our interaction and are to remain in a more conservative, professional mode. Personally I have made it my policy not to sign any petitions at all, period. So please do not take it as a personal uncaring sign. Please forgive me for seeming cold by not responding to you but know that I have prayed for your friends. God will work it out, we must trust Him. There are sometimes in our lives when He is the only One who can comfort us. I am thinking this might be one of those times for you. I have heard about this matter in the news and it is so sad that a few who break the rules ruin it for everyone else. That is the way of life I have found. Deep hurt and pain. You are my sister in Christ and please accept my apology and know I will continue to pray for you and your friends. Maranatha
1002 | what does the darkness refer to? | John 1:5 | Val | 194726
John is using figurative speech here. The Lord Jesus is the Light. "A metaphor is an implied comparison between two things which are different...." " An example is John 6:48 where the Lord Jesus says, "I am the bread of life." Looking at John 1:4 "In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men." Then look at John 1:12 "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, John 1:13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God." Looking at John 1:10 "He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. John 1:11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him." Therefore those who did not receive Him are still in darkness. I would say darkness in this context is the world system that is under Satan's control. Eph 2:1 "And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, Eph 2:2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience." The Lord Jesus came to rescue us and deliver us out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. Reading on in John you see that John admonishes us to walk as children of light not as children of darkness. |

1003 | where is the (signs) located at | Luke 1:1 | Val | 194698
The miracles that Jesus performed are considered signs. They start with turning water into vine, healing the sick and raising the dead. Look in the back of your bible at the concordance and see if you find the references. Hope this helps. The gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John is the suggested reading for these.
1004 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | Val | 194694
You stated "So we can not categorize tithe as a law. Just something that we do to honor God, and not doing it, as he pointed out in Malachi, is robbing him." Browbeating is a type of force to control others and is not within the spirit of the attitude of cheerful giving. You may make some people feel guilty and they will give but they probably will not be doing it cheerfully but as a result of pressure and intimidation. "Luke 3:14 Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, "And what about us, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages." As has been stated in this post previously a dogmatic interpretation of this verse in Malachi causes offense and prejudges believers causing division and conflict. As I have pointed out as well as others there is an inhouse debate in christendom about this topic as you see in the article I posted. So please don't imply that those who do not hold to your interpretation are robbing God. That is not appropriate. As Hank reminded us, this is not a discussion forum so let each view stand as is. |

1005 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | Val | 194640
"Although Christians should not be encouraged to redirect their giving from their local churches completely, there also should not be any legalism involved in how and to whom money is given. So, if believers feel the need, and God's direction, to help ministries outside of their local churches, it would be hard to say that they are disobeying God's Word if they give as the Lord has directed them to give. Remember that God is concerned more with the attitude in giving than with the actual gift or designation of it." One church teaches that people should wear their best clothes - suit and ties when they come to church. Another church says come in your blue jeans. Is there a biblical principle that addresses this? |

1010 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | Val | 194563
I understand what you are saying about the tithe and personally believe that since we are saved by grace alone as the book of Galatins speaks that we have liberty in our relationship with Christ in many regards. My question is why do some pastors insist upon the tithe and some members make those who don't tithe feel inadequate by telling them they are out of God's will and they somehow don't love God as much as they do. I have even heard preaching that if you don't tithe that - they say - and I don't agree - that God will get it some other way. Why do you think they hang on to this teaching besides the obvious answer being they get to spend the money?

1012 | ... | Deut 4:29 | Val | 194531
If you really want to know about the concept as you say then you can do a study of the attributes of God. You could start with what the bible says about Him. You could start with words like holy, justice, impartial. Any topics you desire. If you truly want to know Him, you will find Him when you seek Him with all your heart.

1017 | Are faith and works an integral unit? | Romans | Val | 194474
I guess it depends on the biblical person. In looking at the good kings you will see that they made reforms that followed the Lord's commandments. In this sense you see their faith is being worked out by their actions. I believe only the Lord can see the motivations of ones heart as to why they do what they do. I believe that those who wanted to please Jehovah did view faith and action as a unit in the sense of obedience to those things commanded. This is a different way of looking at works. We certainly are saved by faith alone but as James says a genuine faith will produce good deeds.
1018 | Can't we live like the early disciples? | Mark 6:8 | Val | 194161
By seeking the Lord and His righteousness through reading and studying the bible, believing and obeying what He says there. Believing in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ and living in the power of His Holy Spirit.
1019 | The existence of Satan | Bible general Archive 3 | Val | 194160
If you get Strong's concordance - you can look up all the references to Satan, the accuser of the brethen, the serpent of old. I would start in Genesis.
1020 | putting forth their hand? | 1 Sam 24:12 | Val | 194029
1 Sam 24:12 "May the LORD judge between you and me, and may the LORD avenge me on you; but my hand shall not be against you. The short answer is that David sought to please the Lord. Saul was unreasonable and suspicious of David and tormented him to the point of trying to kill him. David on many occasions had been spared from Saul's men by the Lord. I am sure he was frustrated with Saul and on more than one occasion could have ended Saul's life. He chose rather to leave it to the Lord. As an application to our lives today, if we continually seek to please the Lord He will vindicate us of lies and slander against us if we like David leave it to the Lord. We must always be in constant prayer and walk in faith through the power of the Holy Spirit. Staying close to our Lord in daily bible reading and prayer is the best defense. |
