941 | Was the Bible written by fortune tellers | Luke 24:1 | Val | 196180
Tell him that Satan has blinded his eyes. Relying on fortune tellers is idolatry. It is not your responsibility to make your friend believe. Your responsibility is to proclaim the gospel of Christ Jesus's death burial and resurrection and leave the rest to Him. Go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to open your friend's eyes. Luke 24:44 Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." Luke 24:45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, Luke 24:46 and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, Luke 24:47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. Luke 24:48 "You are witnesses of these things. |

There could be many reasons this was said to you. It may just be a personality conflict. It sounds like you might need to back off and just listen for a while, otherwise you might want to change classes or churches. James 1:19 This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; |

944 | A prophet | Jeremiah | Val | 196050
It really depended on the King whether to listen to God through His prophets. When we look at the kings they are listed as evil or good. God protected His prophets. The king and people at this time wanted to hear only good things and not bad things so the true prophets were probably hated by many.
945 | Why did God put us on earth with satin? | Genesis | Val | 196020
Your right I posted to your response. My intentions were to post to the question that appeared on the front page. I don't know how it got mixed up. Anyway sometimes when I study scripture my mind wonders as well to possible outcomes but I have learned to concentrate only on what the Bible has said and not to go beyond that. That way I stay focused on the Bible passage and not my wondering mind. God has created a place without Satan - that place is in heaven. This earth is not meant to be heaven. With that said I apologize for getting my response to you wrong. May God Bless you and may you grow in the knowledge and grace of God the Father and our Lord His Son Christ Jesus.
946 | Why did God put us on earth with satin? | Genesis | Val | 195997
It sounds like you are angry and blaming God for something that has happened to you. When we do not deal with our anger appropriately, confessing it as sin, it makes us bitter. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
947 | negative self concept | 2 Tim 2:15 | Val | 195996
There is good news for you. God can take care of any problem. First look inward to see if there is any disobedience or sinful behavior that needs to be dealt with. Proverbs 28:13 says "He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy." If you have never received Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior, that would be the first step to having peace. Freedom from guilt is included in Jesus' death on the cross, but we must trust Him to cleanse us. Read and study the Bible beginning with the gospels. Begin the habit of daily prayer confessing all present sins and asking for forgiveness and cleansing. Thank God for taking away the sin and guilt. Find a Bible-teaching church and begin to go regularly where you will hear and study God's Word. I pray you will find peace. If you continue to struggle seek out a pastor of a Bible-teaching church. Ephesians 2:14 "He Himself is our peace" |

948 | Why God killed boys for teasing Elisha | 2 Kings | Val | 195969
Yes I think so too. Also look at 2 Kin 13:14 When Elisha became sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash the king of Israel came down to him and wept over him and said, "My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" . What do you make of this verse? A few people in my SS class (at the time)who believed in the health and wealth sort of thing were bewildered that Elisha got sick and die. Anyway his interaction with Joash in verses 13-19 regarding the arrows and striking the ground were an interesting part of the story. Do you think that was a prophecy of future events or was he testing Joash's faith? Looking on down in 2 Kin 13:25 Then Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again from the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken in war from the hand of Jehoahaz his father. Three times Joash defeated him and recovered the cities of Israel. |

949 | Why God killed boys for teasing Elisha | 2 Kings | Val | 195964
Thank you. I particularly enjoyed studying the miracles God performed through Elisha. It was a very interesting period of time. An amazing verse is 2 Kin 13:21 As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a marauding band; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the man touched the bones of Elisha he revived and stood up on his feet. Pretty remarkable isn't it. |

951 | Why God killed boys for teasing Elisha | 2 Kings | Val | 195951
A study of the prophet Elijah will give you great insight into what the spiritual climate was at this time. Elisha was chosen by God to be His prophet to succede Elijah. The timing was also important as it was close to this transition of prophets that this incident occurred. When the youths, as someone has already stated they were not minors as we consider children in our day and time, but they were young adults, when they began to mock Elisha they were challenging his authority and role as God's prophet. We must also consider that God sees people's hearts. This is something you and I nor any other human can see. When these young adults were mocking Elisha they were treading on thin ice. They were not only mocking Elisha but Elisha's God. They were undermining his authority as God's prophet. They brought judgment upon themselves in their attitudes and actions. Obviously it was a serious offense that brought them immediate judgment.

Thank you Sister Azure. Your words of encouragement are dearly appreciated. 1 Tim 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 1 Tim 2:2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 1 Tim 2:3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 1 Tim 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 1 Tim 2:6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. |

953 | Ecclesiastes, Matthew, NOW WHAT? | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 195816
Brother John - thank you and Cheri for your kind words. How wonderful is God our Father and His Son Christ Jesus our Lord. We serve a living God and a living person in our Lord Christ Jesus. His bible is His love letter to us. When someone sends me a letter I read the whole letter. If I only read one line out of the letter, I would not know what the sender was trying to tell me. Most times I would read it over and over and over and the more I poured over it the more I understood the one who wrote it to me. What a privilege that the God of the universe has sent us several letters in the bible. I want to read them myself. My good friends might tell me what the letter says, but I have to see it firsthand for myself. As we pour over these letters it is such a privilege to find people such as you and Cheri who even want to read His letters and for that I am grateful. As another believer has said "Just give me Christ Jesus". May you grow in the grace and knowledge of God the Father and our Saviour His Son Christ Jesus. Col 1:9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, Col 1:10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; Col 1:11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. Col 1:13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, Col 1:14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. |

Another suggestion is: Read the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. In them you will see the story of Christ Jesus. Then answer the question "do I believe that this Jesus is who He says He is".
955 | Phinehas and the plague | Num 25:1 | Val | 195799
Israel was told explicitly not to worship false gods/idols or to intermingle with them. Those people of Israel who disobeyed this commandment were bringing judgment upon themselves. The Lord used plagues to bring death to those who disobeyed Him. As you see in verse four, to stop this rebellion the Lord gave instructions to put to death these rebellious leaders who were leading the people astray. Phinehas was obedient to the Lord when he saw the rebellious man and woman come into the tabernacle and the action he took. Reading down in the chapter it appears this man and the woman were people of influence who were trying to trick the people of Israel showing disregard for Jehovah God, verses 16-18. Phinehas was praised by the Lord for obeying Him as you see in verses 11-13. I don't know how this works itself out but you see from verse 11 Phinehas was jealous for his God and made atonement for the sons of Israel, therefore the plague was stopped. The key word is atonement. I believe this is similar to the concept of the blood used over the doorposts when the angel of death took the firstborn back in Egypt but those who put the blood on the doorposts were covered by the blood thus they lived. 958 | Forty days and forty nights | 1 Cor 15:1 | Val | 195701
A basis procedure in bible study is to use an exhaustive concordance. Finding the word in the the concordance you will see how many times that word is used in the bible. By looking at the cross refences in their context you get an understanding of how the word is used. Hope this helps. 1 Cor 15:1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 1 Cor 15:2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 1 Cor 15:3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 1 Cor 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 1 Cor 15:5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 1 Cor 15:6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 1 Cor 15:7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 1 Cor 15:8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. |
